Tried searching for this, but not having much luck. there's some Goex Cartridge black powder available here and wondering if it will work in a 36 Navy cap and ball?

Thanks!

You can bang up any black powder in a cap&ball pistol. I’ve shot up BP salvaged from old cartridges that I took apart to get the brass for reloading. It worked fine in my Ubertis, Piettas and ASMs.

However, if you can find a veteran black powder cartridge shooter who still has the old loading data, you might be able to sell or trade the Cartridge powder to him for a hefty premium; enough for a bigger stash of standard Goex offerings. I’ve seen threads on the BPCR shooting sites where shooters still mourn the loss of Goex Cartridge and Goex Express.

And for good reason BR. It was a good powder. I have about a pound of Cartridge left and I'd gladly do some kind of swap.

Lyman Blackpowder handbook 2nd Edition , page 142 talks about Goex cartridge powder. It sounds like it is a coarse powder like Swiss 1 1/2 but might give good results in calibers smaller than 45 cal.

You can shoot Cartridge in that pistol, but unless you use a separate cylinder loading tool it may give you problems with a lot of fouling. It needs to be compressed a good bit to do it's best work.
