Surprising service

While not fire arm related. I just have to relay this service from Mc Master Carr. Last Thursday evening I placed an order for some items for the shop. It was probably 8:00 or so. This afternoon the UPS truck backed in and delivered them. Most of my orders from them are the same. Extraordinary service in todays world.

They are better than some, I did business with them for 25yrs. and the only issues I remember havening was a problem reading the catalogue. it did help that their main warehouse was just across our parking lot.

MMC is awesome. I get next day delivery. They did have some change to their shipping lately. In the past, they didn't compute shipping until they packed it and decided how/who to use. But now they have a program on their shopping cart, and every item has a pre-determined shipping cost. So if you buy many items, shipping can end up costing more that the items, when in reality, all could be put in one box. But they remain at the top of my list for buying online. If I have a bunch to buy again, I will call them to discuss shipping.

We used them at the casino where I worked. Rep came every 2 weeks and automatically ordered hardware and chemicals that were low. We had a huge hardware bin setup of smaller nuts/bolts in SAE and metric. 4 inch Akro bins of each size... probably 300+ bins! We used a lot of hardware doing installs of new slot machines. Most came with hardware that wouldn't work to mount it to our bases, and hardware that didn't fit our communications boards we had to install in each machine(No there isn't a control room where some dude selects what machine makes a payout. Data is one way only, accounting info out of the machine). Plus hardware we needed doing repairs of components inside the machines...

Having that account freed up a lot of spare time, we set minimum order amounts for each type on the front of the bin/box(we got 3" long by 1/4" bolts by the 1,000...). MMC guy did inventory on it every 2 weeks so our parts guy didn't have to track and order things. Same for cleaning chemicals, we used a LOT of brake cleaner to clean coin operated parts, a lot of dust off duster, electronic circuit board cleaner etc...

I seen one shop that the supplier had vending machines set up. the person went up enter the work order number and item it was charged right to the job and vendor kept them filled with end mills and other tooling equipment.

I bought from them for 16 years while I was with a manufacturer. We were rural MS, and if we ordered by 4pm we would get it the next day. And this was UPS ground. Any other company half as far was 2 days or 3.
I still buy acrylic sheet for one of my customer. They are about 5% more than another vendor, but I can get in a couple of days....
