I lucked into this 5-screw K-22 Masterpiece in .22 LR yesterday. According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, the serial number dates in to 1951. Looks pretty darn nice for 71 years old.

It appears to have been hardly fired. E.g., there's no fouling on the cylinder face, there's only a minor turn line, and the lockup is tight.

I intend to change the hardly been fired thing. ;)

Lovely gun. I have a 1950 DOM in .38 Special of similar configuration. Drives X-ring 25 yard groups with factory wadcutters.

Mine from 1953 loved Winchester T22, when I could find them and I could still see the sights clearly.

That is a beauty all right. Nice that it came with the box and stuff. You will most likely find that you can shoot it a fair bit without causing too much visible wear. Check the cylinder stop and debur if needed.

My son just found one at a gun show, yours is a little older and cleaner. He tried to shoot the rifling out of it this past weekend. Made the comment about joining he dark side, his second only double action revolver, he really enjoyed shooting it.
I am also jealous, nice find!

Thanks for the post. Reminded me to check the production date on my S&W Model 18-2. Had it for a spell and just did not think to check until now. Just checked - 1963.

I have the predecesor on the swapping and selling section. It was called the K-22 Outdoorsman. Mine was made between 1931 and 1939. It is in EX cond.

Beautiful K-22!
I have had mine since the mid 70s. Just bought it a older K-38 for company.
