Saw 10 bulk boxes of Winchester Super X HV 22lr at the local Walmart today. 300 rounds for $40.16/box. 40grain 1280fps. I didn't buy any since I'm still shooting $2.50/box CCI SV. Still, good to see some ammo making it's way to the area.

Yes it appears things are coming back to shelves, still hard for this old man to jump on 16 cents a round 22 though.

A month or two ago I saw that same yellow box at Walmart. However I bought the same thing at Academy for $34 and change.

Disappointing that it is bulk packed I was hoping for fifty round boxes.

We've had none in the box stores around here for a couple years. I paid $500 for a case of Eley Target a few years ago. I sure ain't gonna pay more than that for Win. bulk. Or any bulk. I'm saving my money for primers.

I picked a box of Super X Winchester Power Point, 300 count, 40 grain, 1280 fps for $40.16 in the pretty yellow box at Walmart.

And I picked up one more box of Federal Auto-Match solid 40 grain, 325 count, 1200 fps for $21.16.

There are still a few boxes of each there.
I expected it to go quicker since it has been so long since I saw any 22 ammo there.

But do you remember the red and black box Federal Lightning that was before the blue box? I shot that in silhouette matches for 5 years. I'd stop in whatever town's Walmart that happened to be hosting a silhouette match and buy 5-10 bricks for $8.90/brick. We'd finish the match and any kids that wanted to shoot could get one of the competitors to loan him or her a gun and shoot till they were tired. That was about the most fun I'd have all week. And it would only cost me 89˘ a box. The stuff shot great in my contender.

We can blame scarcity on Homeland Security LOL. They supposedly bought up millions of rounds saying it was supposed to be for "practice" ammo.

Yes the Amsterdam store. The newer Johnstown/Gloversville store was fully stocked up on .22s also. Amsterdam has a three box limit per person. Gloversville has a two box limit. Glenns Falls and Saratoga same thing fully stocked with Federal Winchester and CCI. I'm still on the hunt for the elusive primer.

I will also add that last week I was in Runnings in Gloversville and the case was FULL. 9mm 45acp 22s Rifle ammo up the wazzo. Prices a bit high but .22s are a dollar cheaper then Walmart and 9mm was 19.99 a box of 50. Loads of 223/5.56. Once again a two or three box limit. Bring a friend.

I remember back about 2008 pre presidential election, Federal bulk 36 Grain Copper Plated Hollow Points, 550 rounds per box, $8.88 cents. Then, the .22 rimfire drought hit. When it started coming back, good ole' Walmart never dropped the prices below $19 and change. And that sure wasn't Federal's fault. Why do I have this feeling it won't be any different this time?

About a month ago I made my usual every couple of months trip to Wally World. I take numerous vitamins and supplements. Other than that, when I tell people I have to go to Walmart I mean exactly that...I HAVE TO, no other option within 50 miles. I guess out of habit, I always make my way back to sporting goods. Lo and behold, they had Federal 325 stacked high and deep, some Remington Golden bullets, and some high dollar Winchester that came 300 in a pack at $41 and some change. I'm stocked for my needs and not overly worried about it. I just hope it comes back down for those who do.

On another note, a friend and I were the next town over and made a trip into a local Pawn & Gun. My friend is a tool nut (is there such a thing? If so, I'm pretty sure he's one) and as he perused the boxes of sockets & wrench's I was checking out the ammo. Well I'll be, there sat about 12-15 boxes of Federal 325 auto match, at twice the price he bought them for from Walmart. I can understand some mark up, he has to make a profit. But this guy is the epitome of a greedy, slime ball pawn shop broker that embarrasses the good pawn shops.

Yes, Murphy, that’s a slimeball. We had a local gun shop that had a regular routine of hitting the local Walmart first thing on the morning on the days that they would restock to buy and resell at 2 or 3x. Think he had a deal with some Walmart employee. That was before they put a limit and also people caught on and complained to management.

“Think he had a deal with some Walmart employee.“

Ahhh. That’s one glaring problem. There doesn’t really need to be money involved - just good ole boys. The clerks at Cabela’s in PA must do that because a shipment can be cleaned out in short hours.

But then, there are the stories right here about how “I bought ten because I could.”

Was in our local wal mart and they had what I would call a decent variety of 22rf ammo. And for the first time in a very long time they actually had some center fire ammo. They don't normally assign anyone to the sporting goods section unless it's to restock shelves. Otherwise you walk over next door to the auto section and they page someone who has the keys to the ammo. Frank

Was in there yesterday and strolled that way, they had what appeared to be a new unboxed case of CCI Target. Ask and was told 4.85 a box which put it at 10.33 cents a round out the door with maximum of three boxes. Took three and went back today for three more, that's about where it also seems to be online. As painful as it seems it is what it is, still hurts!

Two weeks later I bought 3 more boxes and there were probably 16 or 18 boxes left. 2 weeks later there wasn't a single box of any other .22 ammo. Walmart and .22 ammunition. All I remember is back pre presidential election 2008 when Federal Bulk 550 packs were $8.88 each. You could walk in, grab two bricks, toss a $20 on the counter and get a few cent's back. Once things got back to 'normal' years later, that same box was now more than double the cost. Closer to $19 and change for the same bulk pack that had been $8.88. Ummmmmm, it wasn't Federal that went up that much in cost production, that was Walmart being who they really are.

I've been saying for years, when I say I have to go to Walmart I mean exactly that. It's go there or drive 50 miles to the next larger town to get what I need. I will pay a little extra to stay out of Walmart if I can.

People are not buying as much of it because they can't afford to.
They need their money for gas and groceries.
They don't have any money left for ammo after buying for their basic survival.
It has become very hard for people living paycheck to paycheck.
I am fortunate to no longer be in that category.

Murphy, I think you are being hard on the Walmarts. Hardly anyone wants to support them, many reasons, but often your wallet is the weak link that makes the decision to patronize them. Where else can you buy 22 shells cheaper than Walmart? Sure their price is higher than in 2008 (that was 14 years ago!), but that is the same story everywhere. When I used to buy 22 shells, it was at a Walmart. I don't think I have shot 50 of them in the past 10 years, I did bring a brick of them with me on my prairie dog hunt last year, gave them to the landowner of the the ground we shoot on.

I did look in at the ammao cabinet in a Walmart a couple weeks ago in Sioux City, they had plenty of 22s and a bit of everything else it seemed.

I once bought a box with a silver dollar my grandfather gave me. Price was 65 cents. Wonder there that silver dollar is today.
Oh, by the way. About 30 years later I acquired an exact duplicate of the wooden case the 22 shells were in. I'll always keep it. Reminds me of my great childhood.

Boy, geeze,
Hope you get some soon. Here in Idaho, the Federals are just sitting on the shelf as well as those 333 Winchester boxes. The Federals have been excellent but the Winchesters are full of duds this time.

I got 2-cans of Unique at 38 bucks each and 2-cans HS-6 at 32.00 each at Bi-Mart.

I was in the same Bi-mart day before yesterday. They still had some HS-6 left. Had a good selection of Hornady bullets. I live over in Middleton but haul some of those fancy golf carts
for Eco Motors in Star on Saturdays for gun money. Hi neighbor

First brick of .22's I bought (1961) was in a local Safeway grocery store and the Shorts were $5.00/brick. Remington Kleanbore they were.

I picked up 300 myself yesterday. Great to see different brands although that particular kind of Federal they have is every bit as reliable as CCI.

Local Cabelas in Louisville, KY had Federal Auto-Match yesterday at ~$28/325 rounds + tax. That's a $7 increase from what it was a month ago. I'll have to check the Walmart here in La Grange to see if they're holding the cost at $21. It's good ammunition in my .22's, as accurate as Mini-Mags with almost the same level of reliability. Best Regards, Rod

Our Walmart has a small variety of 22LR, but there is never a clerk available to sell it!

I was in high school when I purchased my first brick of Reminton 22's. A buddy and I stopped at a local store, and found the bricks on sale for $5.00. We both got one brick each, and shot them up later that day . I think that was back in 1966.

Those were the days. In 65 and 66 they were $4.99 a brick here. But thinking back on what I made per hour back then they are almost cheaper today.

The Wal Mart on rt248 Lower Nazareth is stocked up with Federal 325 packs. Priced at $21 and change.

i go there once a month after attending the FDHA meeting + have seen none at all on shelfs , probably would not buy it at that price

Went by this morning for my usual beer run, got it and walked to the sporting goods section. Lots and lots of ammo, and shotshells. No 410's, the vuy says they get some just about every week but they don't sit long.
Well I did grab a couple things, the 22's averaged out at .073 cents a piece.

I’ll have to see if ours has number 11’s. They’ve been out for a couple of years now. I bought a couple of 125 count cci 22wmr cartons for $29Ea. They went up from $22.99 last fall. There have been cases of 22lr at our Walmart all year. They increased the price by a good $5 on everything though.
