Charter Arms 357 Mag pug 2.2 in ported barrel

Looking at purchasing one. Looked in the search function here and didn't get any hits. Anyone here own one? Good, bad and the ugly about them! Have a 9mm and .380. Looking for a j frame size carry gun in .357 mag. Thanks

Don't have a 357 but...be prepared for recoil!!!

owejia: That may be an inexpensive choice for a carry gun and should have plenty of power for that purpose. Like mentioned above, be prepared for heavy recoil as the Charter Arms pistols don't weigh a lot. I own a couple, 40 S&W and 32 H&R. Gp

FYI, the Mag Pug is built on the larger Police Bulldog frame and is definitely larger than a J frame. I had the .38 Special version (Police Undercover) and it was a really good gun. If you really want to feed it .357's all the time I would get a Ruger SP-101.

I have one. Solid firearm, good double and single action trigger. When I shoot 357 out of it, it is with a 358-158-GC Lee bullet, sized .358, with #2 lube and 14.9 grains 4227. It's no joke.

Recoil will be excessive! I'd forgo the ported barrel and just run 38's in it most of the time. I've got a Bull Dog (44 spl) and recoil get's out of hand fast with heavier loads.

If you load 125 grain j words over faster powder you can mitigate the recoil some.

I have one and I have not found the recoil to be bad using full house 357 loads. it is not any worse than my Taurus 605 357 , porting in my opinion dosn't make it any louder than any of the rest of my 357's . Just pull up your big boy panties and shoot it . I use either one as my carry weapon

With 357's, it is a good way to learn how to flinch! 23 oz. is a bit too light in my view for comfortable magnum shooting. However, as a +P 38, it is a very fine choice. I strongly suggest that you carefully examine it before you plunk down your hard earned cash. Charter quality varies markedly from gun to gun and it is bothersome to have to return a firearm to the manufacturer to have a problem corrected that ought to have not left the factory.

Definitely larger than a J frame. But not by much. Either fits in a jean's front pocket.

This one is a .44 Bulldog with a shortened barrel and grips. But I think the .357 Mag Pug is the same size frame.
