View Full Version : What Did You Like About The Olympics?

I welcomed the olympics this time, I stayed glued to the tele in the evenings. Less politics less BS. The improvements in technology for one was astounding! The control room(s) used by NBC were some NASA looking stuff, but the resolution and dynamics they showed us on our screens was worth all the work. Drone views were right there with the athletes, you couldn't get any closer to them as they competed.

For the first time, they showed (at least to American audiences) the athletes' families and friends at home, and at bars all gathered round cheering them on, that was very cool.

And the courses that the Chinese built were all masterfully done, they were as perfect as I have ever seen, I have to give credit where credit is due.

My favorites were the snowboard cross, and the pairs skating. Those skaters work for YEARS to hone their routines and their moves, and it showed.

The only negative comment I would have would be for NBC's choice of commentators in the studio, Tara Lipinski was good but the fruitcake he/she/it whatever it is Johnny Weir I could do without. I am sure the bite me administration is probably eyeing up a spot it could fill.

Perhaps it was the majestic view of the old steel mill which was right next to the ski jump. It just proves that there’s no hiding the splendor of Communism. You can clean it up and toss big bucks around ( ask Hunter) but in the end it’s just like putting a spit shine on a [emoji90]. Beyond that🥱 not a thing.

The Olymics were on? Who knew? I put a new differential, drive shaft, front brakes, and changed the tranny fluid on the daughters Escape. (junk). Gas checked 300 .30 cal Lees, and loaded 200 30-06's. Changed a front crank seal on the Mustang, and just got done buffing some rain-x on Fastlady's Speed6 windshield. She just now pulled a home made chicken pot pie out of the oven.
When I asked her what's on TV, she said "dust"

I only heard one thing about the olympics. Russian skaters can compete with body enhancing drugs in their system but american runners can't compete with pot in their system. I didn't watch any of it.

I did get an Arisaka drilled and tapped for a scope base and glass bedded the action.

Mostly figure skating, and watching how the Russian skaters temper tantrum about who won gold and who won silver while the Japanese skater was joyous she was on the podium with bronze! That Russian coach! She's colder than the ice those poor girls where skating on!

Maybe its just the TV programming we have, but it seemed that every time we tried to watch the only thing being shown was curling. With no interest in that activity at all, I was satisfied with a few views of the ice skating. The "home grown officiating influence" of the scores for that part of the competitions was also amazing.

I can’t wait, just kidding [yes I can]. The Olympics have become a joke and it’s a shame as much work as the athletes do to get to that level of skill. The 15 year old Russian skater tests positive for drugs but is allowed to skate even with russia being banned for doping at the last Olympics. Why is a 15 year old there at all? Lets exploit these kids for the ratings.

Hope you guys don’t miss the “Break Dancing” coming in 2024 from France.

At least it ain't "The most memorable gang shootings in Chicago 2024"

I don't like or listen to rap, hip hop, pop, I don't appreciate that "culture" ONE BIT. But, down in New Orleans by the square, many years ago when breaking was popular, (AND you could GO to New Orleans without getting SHOT) I saw a troupe of young blacks breaking on a 40' x 40' tarp, and I'm telling you THEY WAS GOOD! As good or better than anything I have seen on AGT. I was pretty impressed with their seemingly defying the laws of physics moves. You have to look past the stigma. You have to look past the genre, just like the olympics, I watched because the athletes were performing to the best of their capabilities, regardless of the host nations' track record. And I appreciated EVERY winning performance regardless of the flag they wore.

Yes it's a sad state of affairs when one Russian teen gets busted and they STILL let her skate, but otoh, the Russian pairs that skated last, were PHENOMENAL.

Do you have any idea how much WORK it takes to perfect even one of the moves they executed with perfection? You are on ice, skating. In front of millions of viewers, you artfully and gracefully pick up 120lbs of female skater and you TOSS her with a forceful twisting motion 4 FEET into the air above you and then catch her, land her on one skate, backwards, like she doesn't weigh anything at all.

Most of our "professional" athletes couldn't do that spinning toss standing on solid ground with their shoes on. Y'all can hate on Russia or China all you want, but you cannot deny the human effort and all the hard work they put into it. Somebody takes home a gold medal in this event? They worked their BUTTS OFF for that medal.

I have always looked forward to the Winter Olympics since Squaw Valley back in the day. Ski Jumping Bob Sleds mens events. Then came the half pipe stuff, which I had first saw it. What kind of hippie skate board nonsense! But, that too had a degree of skill for a bunch of kids in baggy smurf outfits. I even liked the figure skating with Dick Buttons and Scott Hamilton etc. This year way way not so much. Ski Jumping with no risk, points shaved for tail or head winds??? Bob Sleds schemed so scientifically and courses devised so perfectly that the competitors are all only separated by 3/10ths of a second up or down. Now the Luge and Skeleton are stil the nervy thing I like and wish I had a crack at while younger. Man, I'd buy a ticket on that ride. The figure skating done to hip hop dirges yuk! instead of Dick Buttons ( Who is alive and well) we get Johnny Wier FLAMING yuk again. And just like Everything else right now, Mixed messages. Is this doping, Yeah But in this case?????
I don't think I will be back anytime soon. Goodbye Mike Trico I'm sick of you too.

Since we got "wide angle" HD cable service some years ago I've not watched anything at all on the old line of alphabet propaganda channels of the Democrat Party. In fact, I really don't know if my TV receives them any more and I'm not going to check it now.

I'm a old, southern, straight, white, reasonably intelligent, patriotic Christian male who proudly wore a U.S. military uniform. Our transparently phoney, blow-dried, arrogant, hive minded, pompous, politically "progressive", spiritually ignorant, socially contemptible and morally slimey "news", sports and entertainment people insulted my intelligence to my face the last time quite a few years ago!

So, I must ask, "What Olympics, what World Series, what Super Bowl, what 60 Minutes, etc., do you mean? Do they still do that?"

02-21-2022, 02:39 PM
Normally I watch Biathlon with interest since I volunteered on the summer training courses of the team. This time I avoided watching the genocide games. I did pull the scope off my 22 Hornet and have gone back to basics with iron peep sights. Years ago I did my own version of biathlon down in Nevada when I Xctry skied down a pack of coyotes in soft snow then executed a few with that 22 Hornet when the coyotes trapped a flock of sheep next to Hwy 50. I miss those skis but my knees won't allow that anymore.

I promise you NONE OF OUR ATHLETES TOOK A KNEE! They took the flag and WAVED IT PROUDLY, ALL THE WAY TO THE CLOSING CEREMONY.

You can't lump the olympics in with the rest of the unpatriotic trash. That's NOT at all fair to those kids who worked like a DOG to get where they are today. Some of our medal winners have been to FIVE OLYMPICS! Represented the USA for the last 20 YEARS! They were proudly patriotic while dip **** Colon Kaperneck was still in HIGH SCHOOL. Your comments only show that YOU are the one missing the point.

Jeff Michel
02-21-2022, 07:28 PM
I agree with DougGuy up to a point. Yes, the athletes work almost non stop to just get the honor of competing for a spot on the Olympic team let alone to win anything. A family friend's nephew won a gold in the Men's in 4/100 medley relay and came in 9th in the 100 meter back stroke at the past summer games and it was pretty neat to say the least. Now I did not watch the Olympics, out front, it has absolutely nothing to do with the athletes, but the political aspects are unavoidable and I have always felt to use these people to make a statement is despicable. Just my opinion, other's obliviously vary quite a bit.

Your comments only show that YOU are the one missing the point.

Your comments show you have missed my point.

First, kindly note that I didn't say a thing about the kid's political antics.

In fact I DO respect their costly acquired skills but I'm not captivated with them; after all, at the end of the day it's just kid games. I don't care very much if the kids drop to their knees or roll around on the ground in attempts to make their childish political points; after all, they're just kids.

However, I totally reject watching or listening to panels of grown-up TV airheads who believe THEY are the real stars and obviously think the public laps up their piles of libbrul political drivel, along with seeing a few background visuals of the kid's play days of course. (And I include the spoiled rich kid players and TV motor mouths in professional children's games in that.)

I know it will never happen but I wonder how much good the frivolous Olympic training, construction, operating and entertainment money would do if it went to something actually helpful to people's lives such as the St. Jude Children's Hospital, et al, instead of it all just passing away like a brief vapor.

If we watched or not mattered little to the participants, they still won or lost the same. The CCP wanted world notice and they got that. NBC wanted viewers so a lot of American eyes would see their expensive commercial adds. They got a few eyes; none of them were mine.

You might take a look at the packages your cable provider offers.
My package doesn't include "standard" channels at all but I do have quite a few worthwhile program options, including a LOT of quality streaming music from long ago. I mean good music and singing from before modern screeching and howling with flashing lights and near nude soft porn background dancers for drug-fried brains became the in thing.

I enjoy any sport that is not a judging game. Also really enjoy biathlon, but it involves a firearm so coverage is nearly nil.

The Olympic Committee are a bunch of corrupt people, what needs to happen is a house cleaning and only people of honesty and integrity get to run it. Problem will never happen but nice to think that way.
