Ok, a good while back I picked up a bag of primed 20 gauge Cheddite paper hulls from BP.Wanted to try some blackpowder loads with them.No matter what amount of powder or shot I used the hulls would split the hole length of the hull.So I cut a piece of heavy paper that wrapped around the hull without over lapping at the seam just a little glue stick to hold it on.And now when I shoot them no splitting at all. Just something I had to try to keep busy.If the hulls were like Federal paper ones I wouldn't have to do.Forgot to add that I did try the Cheddite hulls in 2 different single barrel guns and the hulls split in both of them.

Hmm...isn't that interesting. Glad it worked for you! I haven't loaded paper hulls in almost 60 years. For my BP loads I use MagTech brass hulls but all my 16's are 2 1/2 in. chambers.....but I don't think that matters?

Update. It worked great now I can at least reload the paper shell one more time. Right now I use 2 1/4 drams of black powder, over powder wad,3 cork wads,3/8 oz shot, card and a roll crimp.

Sounds like the paper cases you have are undersized for the chamber. If you can give them a wrap and they still enter the chamber smoothly, the OD of the “naked” hull may be small enough that the splitting will be unavoidable until you “shim” the case with that layer of extra paper. Just a thought… :coffeecom
