The other day I saw people on g- broker bidding like 140.00 for a box of brass 20 gauge shells. If they did a little homework could have payed 38.00 for same shells on Ballistic Products that are in stock NOW!

Auctions, real or online, can bring out strange behavior in folks.

A couple of weeks ago I saw two boxes of Peters 2 1/2" 410 shells at auction go for $250 + 15% buyers fee. But on the other hand I bought a Bonanza CO-AX for $20 and a Dillon SQ Deal complete for $135 at the same auction house. You just never know.

Long ago on another forum a member had brass 12 ga for sale for $50 a box. At the time they were listed for $20 in stock multiple places. I made the mistake of asking if these were the same ones for the lesser price and added a link to the others.

Wow!!, you would think I peed in his canteen cup considering the replies......Oh well.

Guess I was the jerk that day.

To many know look at an action as a contest and pride wont let them lose an item, but it does let them lose a lot of money at times. Others dont do any research before and have no real idea what an item is worth or sells for new.

A few years ago Dad and I went to a family members estate auction. there was an older logan lathe a 6" X 24" bench top, it did have a full set of change gears. otherwise very little tooling or parts. I gave 1 bid in it and it took off shortly after going for just over $2000.00, at the time you could go down to T&S and buy a brand new jet 10 X 40 with basic tooling, quick change gear box and stand.

For many years firearms went high because there wasnt any paper work or checks at auctions, but now almost all do a 4473 and the background call in. Firearms and tools are big draws here at auction and online also. Ive seen both go way high at almost new or even above it.

Expect a warning if you try that on this site as well. Most of the WTS posts here are fairly priced and most of the buyers are wise enough to pass on stuff that is a bit inflated.

I recall some jerks calling out a couple of guys selling primers at IIRC $80/k or so last year. That was when $150/k on Gunbroker was normal. I ended up not posting a WTS here and sold my excess primers though another forum. A few members may have been thankful to get some primers, but I did not need the name calling or bad feelings.

It is a good policy to not allow comments on prices.

Same auction house has been selling several 325 rd boxes of Federal automatch at each of their auctions and they have been selling for $50+ per box + 15%. Same ammo Walmart has been selling for $21.16 per box about 5 miles up the road. Auctions have some strange results.

Auctions can become like a feeding frenzy of sharks. The few firearms I’ve bid on have always ended up selling for much more than close to what I thought they were worth.

Was at an auction about 4-5 years ago that had 5 or 6 guns. Second gun up ended in a bidding war by 2 men who did not like each other, went for about 3 times what a new one would be. The fourth gun auctioned was an Ithaca 37 in twenty gauge that I got for $100.

The value of something is what someone is willing to pay for it.

Estate sales are the snizzle for buyers, I've hit 2 in the last 6 months.
1st one I bought a Skil blower and weed eater, Sold the weed eater alone and doubled what I paid for both.
2nd one bought a bunch of blades, If one pans out to be at least ww2 then it will be sold to pay for the rest of the blades.
Dude was strait up saying at least 4 were Chinese very good reproduction's, But even these have resale value of 100/200 bucks.
The blades, No doubt 4 on the right are Chinese
