Here’s the pouring of the boat keel. I love to see that flowing lead. There also an interesting part by the retired keel caster about lead poisoning. He never had any problems doing it five days a week.

... I wish I had 8 tons of lead... Moving back to the left coast from Wyoming, not only can I not get my lead weights free, they don't have lead weights anymore... My supply is now down to probably less than 100 lbs. But I don't have many primers, so I guess it's not that big an issue

A lot of people have done that. Apparently it cuts pretty easily with a chainsaw. Some keels are pure lead, but many have antimony added to harden them to reduce damage, when they run into something.

Its hard to tell in the video but way more time goes into the prep, laying up the mould and getting ready than the actual pour. As a idea there were 2 videos before this one on the getting ready.

Its all the work before thats important and needs done right the actual pour is the bonus.

Seeing that molten lead flow was interesting, The other was how much it took as it cooled to make up the shrinkage that occurred.

Most sand moulds are one time use. The outer layer ( cope and drag is removed and the sand broken away and reused. in this case I can see it being flipped over and set on blocks then the box removed and sand broken away. so its sitting on the widest part and more stable, and all 3 sides of he sand mould will be workable

I have to laugh seeing these posts on here about Talley Ho. I have been watching that build since the first episode and I was thinking through this whole keep build about posting it on here. Did you see the original video where they tried to do it where the boat was originally and the melted through and made quite the mess? I don't know how old Doug the keel builder is in those videos but I wish I were in his condition!!! Diving into that pot at the end of the pour and pulling out 3/4 full cans of lead............ Yea, those are 40-50 lbs each. And I was also thinking of the Tinsel fairy on steroids watching them just drop those huge blocks in with the forklift. Did you see the open voids on the tops of some of them?

Very cool video.
I have half a 55 gal drum filled with WW, that went through our shop fire several years ago. The tractor won't lift it. One of these days I'll have to see if I can build a fire under it...
