Im in need of a side plate for a box of parts handgun that is missing some of the parts . It’s a S&W model 67 the stainless version of the 15 a later version , I believe it’s a 67-4 the less desirable one’s with the 2 part barrel or a sleeve over the barrel . My question is can I use another K frame side plate with a little fitting ? So if I find someone who has one off of a M 64 could it be used . Did they change over the years ???

You may need to contact S&W directly for this. They may have you send it to have the plate fit, if they even have any in stock.

Over the years, I've found that it takes a very experienced pistolsmith, indeed (not some parts-changer), to fit a S&W sideplate.

You might want to talk to the folks @ the Cylinder & Slide Shop:

I haven't ordered one yet , but I have saved a few search results , this will be a ongoing project I'm involved in with a friend .
We get together every few weeks and depending on the weather - we do a little shooting , or play a game of ( can we fix this old gun ) .

You will have to make sure the plate is plumb flat and the holes must line up exactly. I like to hone the contact surfaces smooth of burrs. if you have hones files and a surface plate and with slow and carefull hand work you can fit it yourself.

I was mistaken it's 67-6 & I'm going to put it back together with a friend . I'm getting ready to start ordering a few parts but have a few questions if you gentlemen don't mind .
What were some of the changes - as the evolution unfolded ?
I relies the shroud barrel , Hillary lock , but what actually changed internally in the latter models ?

Fitting a side plate can be an exercise in patience. Having a couple to choose from is helpful.

I may have something in my cache of parts. Email me if you’re in dire need.

What years are we talking about?
I believe around the early 2000s , I think the model 67-6 started in 2004 , but I can't swear to it . The problem I'm running into now is their was possibly a difference in the cylinder and crane on the latter models . I can't seam to find any information on what the difference is .
Any ideas .

67-1, gas ring moves from yoke to cylinder
67-2, new yoke retention system/radius stud, floating hand, hammer nose bushing
67-3, change extractor, drill and tap frame, change rear sight, Hogue grips
67-4, eliminate cylinder stop stud/eliminate serrated tang, change to MIM hammer w/ floating firing pin, change lock work
67-5, external keyed lock
67-6, 2 piece barrel

In addition…
1982, delete pinned barrel
1996, delete square butt
1997, change thumb piece, MIM trigger

Thank you Imashooter2
Do the model 64s change the same ?
I suppose my question is can I use a cylinder and crane from a 67-4 or above in a 67-6 , or hopefully even a later model 64 .
That would really help finding parts .

No, not exactly the same. The floating hand comes in at different dashes depending on the barrel, etc..

As for the yoke, I can’t swear it will work, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t.
