I am searching for a source of tracing paper that measures ~.0015 in thickness. I had such a piece given to me from a friend, but now I'm just about out. Papers such as Strathmore 300 always measure .002" and Mead 54200 has been discontinued. I have searched my local stores, but to no avail. This thin paper produces an excellent round for my needs. Anyone have a source and brand?

Check out Seth Cole 55w and 55Y.

I believe the onion paper buffalo arms sells is close to that also. I got some tracing paper at micheals that measured .0017 also. The Seth Cole that Don mentioned is very good also.

Some one posted the other day somewhere that 55w is .015 and 55y is .012
I’ve never really measured any of the papers I’ve tried as when I did early on when starting back down the paper patch trail paper measurements are close but not as consistent as one might think. But I can tell you that both papers work well in my rifles with the bullets I use now. Altho some rifles show a preference for one over the other and others say ok feed me what ever you have

Hoping this helps your search for paper

I have some 55Y that runs .00126" to .00141" depending where I put the Mic on the sheet.
With the groove .004" deep in my opinion that paper is not what I want to use. At the end of the of the range time looking through the bore scope checking out the gray streaks on the patch I see lead on the driving edges of the lands. I have a couple rifles that have .003" deep grooves and I find no problems with the yellow.
The 55Y 55 W in the rolls I have is not consistent in thickness but Onion skin paper especially the good like Southworth cocker finish 25% to 100% cotton is just about none existent.
Match your paper thickness to your bullet diameter or the bullet you have to your paper.
I will take .0018" to .002" over paper too thin anytime.

One of the problems I am having using anything over ~.0015 with my BACo .451 bullet head is that paper in greater thickness requires that I expand the case OD to over .480. Greater than this dimension causes a dimensional interference with the bore diameter. Thus, patching to .456 to .457 allows perfect chambering of the rounds in my Farmingdale chamber with a .355 freebore.

.480" diameter would be a problem chambering the shell.
That .355" freebore can be made to shoot good. I have had and still do have rifles with .400"+ freebore and a chamber like this needs a proper bullet that fits the freebore and seats into the lead angle. It will shoot just as well as a bore diameter.A A PP bullet patched to A bore diameter with a long freebore is not the way to go if you want the accuracy below say 2 MOA.
I would consider one of the two diameter PP bullets that belted Arnie designed like theItem Number: JIM453546E and figure out how deep you seat the bullet in the case and how much is needed for the 3º taper makes contact with the lead angle.
Or go with a groove diameter PP but it will take up more room in the case but they can be made to shoot well.

Wet patching the 55y may just be the ticket

What are the benefits from a wet v. dry paper patch exactly?

Damp, not wet paper shrinks tightly. Making for a nice patched bullet.

You put the wet wrapped bullets on a candle/cup warmer , the paper dries quick and shrinks up tight against the bullet.
Might be able to google up Ian Egbert or Kenny Wasserburger videos on it.

I found a "pile" of old stock Fox River onion skin 25% cotton that measures .0015" in Billings last week by driving around and asking "whadya got".
2" thick hand wrapped bundle for $20

Just an FYI about tracing paper,
Was told by a seller recently that the Alvin tracing paper has no cotton content.
