I asked this question in another post but I have not gotten an answer yet

What diameter is best?

Are you planning to be making one? I have done so. I would say that .221 or .222 would work . I have made them in .220 combined with the forming post as big as .200. That does not leave much room but makes for a nearly perfect case when done. I hope you can use this. If you go for the bigger clearance of .222 life will be easier and they will still shoot ok.

I used a drill bushing and ground some taper into it. Think it measured like .2185 I.D. Punches made out of grade 8 bolts work for awhile.

You could open that up easily. Take that bolt you use for a punch and harden it . Easy to do and will last almost forever. If you do this sand it really smooth. My Corbin made punch and de-rime die barely made 1000 .Not a good thing considering how much it cost.

Yes something is going on with D.Corbin. I got many thousand out of my last punch and the die is fine. I got D.Corbin to send over some new punches and they were very soft. I wrote to Dave asking what was up. He replied that they left them soft as hardened ones could snap if there was misalignment. This is of little use if they fail within a couple hundred cases. Dave did tell me how to harden them and I did that myself without issue. When they start to wear I regrind the punch to a radius template I made.
If you can make the gear yourself do so. The standard seems to be dropping for a higher cost.

Thanks for the replies!
I have a Corbin die and the bushing cracked so I need to make another and want to do it right the first time!
I made one to do 22 mag brass with 2 steps. The first step removes the rim and the second step sizes the case for 6mm/ 243 bullets!
I may try something like that with this die.
The bushing needs to be a little longer but I think that it is worth the little bit of extra time!

I use hardened high speed steel for my derim punch. Have years of customers using this derim punch set up with reports of 100s of thousands of cases derimed (from several individual customers) with no problems! Probably derimed over 30K myself with my one punch.

Unhardened punch for this step.......I can't comment without sounding bias.

Swage on!

BT, there is no reason not to be a little bias. D.Corbin use to have hardened punches for this process. I am now making my own hardened punches.
