non metallic gas checks

I tried to find some GC bullets for 32 special. No dice. I've made some hard cast LEE 329-205 GC bullets, but I'm not sure how they will fly in a 1/16 twist at 217 grains.

I found some 170 gr 0.3215" diam 18 BH bullets at Missouri Bullet Co., but plain base.

Would using crazy glue to attach a pressed paper board or thin plastic wad to the base do me any good? I have a perfectly sized leather punch.

Taking a crew out into the Tonto National Forrest soon and don't want to shoot up my FTX flex tips.

I wouldn't bother.

If your speeds are in the mid-teens or so, you shouldn't need a gas check at all.
I'd use them like they are, and get a mold for what you really want to do with it.

Iben reading all manner of other posts on what checks actually do / how they work, and I have to wonder if the 0.001 to 0.003 seconds the bullet is in the barrel will even ignite a pressed paper check?

I agree with Ed. I shoot a lot of gas check type boolits without the gas checks in my 45/70. They are powder coated though. I haven’t shot any that weren’t.

Here is a link to sticky concerning your question. It is enlightening. I shoot a lot of GC bullets without them and they are still more accurate then I am. 32 special or 327 Fed mag boolits use 30 cal gas checks if you did not know. (I didn't till I got my 327)

Some Leading is from the boolit sort of skidding as it goes down the barrel, or not rotating quite as fast as the twist rate.
Other Leading can be caused by the flame of the powder charge vaporizing a bit of the boolit's base then depositing it in the barrel.

The gas check prevents the vaporization, prevents gas 'blow by' & cutting at higher speeds, and helps the boolit obey the twist rate.
But if ya don't need it---- you don't need it.

A paper check might stop the base from getting burned, but that'd be about it.
