Got another rescue rifle today. I have ALWAYS been a fan of SAKO rifles and beside Ruger #1's they comprise a majority of manufacturers in my collection.

I sauntered into my LGS today (mistake #1) to buy some H380 for my 22-250 and lo and behold there was another lost puppy in the consignment rack, a SAKO 6mm PPC USA. Poor little thing was looking lost and lonely, so I thought I would just take a peek at what it would take, to leave with the ONLY factory produced 6mm PPC rifle. She was in excellent condition and had not been modified in any way (some folks replace the excellent SAKO trigger with an aftermarket one). The price tag was very fair, but I thought "what the heck" let's see how much she would REALLY cost. I put in an offer and after a short wait while the salesman contacted the owner and I left $700.00 poorer...

Neat! You got a rare one there. Is it a single shot solid bottom?

Yes, there is no cut out for a magazine. I managed to massage the trigger down to 6 ounces with a clean break and no follow when closing the bolt.

Ruger made the m77 MKII VT in 6mm PPC in the 90's. Can't recall who it was but seems like there was at least one more factory made rifle in 6PPC . I tried to buy a Sako at Larry's West in Madison Alabama about two years ago , they had two at the time . One with a Sporter weight barrel they wanted $1400 for and a heavy barrel priced at $1100 . Couldn't get them to come off those prices a bit so I had to pass due to short funds . Last time I was there they still had the heavy barrel rifle, the other one was gone within two weeks . Congratulations on that one, they are very nice rifles.

PS: Kimber 84 Ultra Varmint was the other one offered in 6mmPPC . They didn't make many but they did make some .

I have it's sporter/repeater sister. I haven't had much opportunity to work with it and I've only had it bout 15 years or so. It does seem that it wants to shoot well. I've been spoiled by a couple of 6mm BR's. That is the easiest cartridge I have ever worked with to find accuracy.
Congratulations! and I hope you enjoy your new rifle,
Rick

I think Ruger also made a few #1's in 6mm PPC, but not many.

:drinks:Nice rifle!

Before seeing this thread, I never realized there was a 6PPC USA in addition to the "regular" 6PPC. I had a Ruger 1V in 6PPC for a short time and it was a precise rifle. What is the advantage, if any, of the 6PPC USA?

It was designed so that you did NOT have to neck turn the brass. I don't have a problem neck turning and truth be told usually prefer it, but SAKO designed it with a slightly larger neck and produced brass for it too. This creates a slight problem in that there are reloading dies specifically designed for the "USA" version and they are RARE.

Sounds like it is sort of the same idea as the 6BR Norma?

Sorry for being OT, but I have its younger SAKO 75 brother in stainless with a detachable mag. Most accurate rifle I ever owned.

I shot these two shots at 400 meters (440 yards) from a bipod to check the zero and range dial.
I was aiming at the center of the "D". After checking the target i decided not to touch anything. ;)

I have the same rifle in 22PPC. When I use Lapua 220 russian brass I have to neck turn. I don't have to neck turn Norma 22PPC brass.

They did !

I wanted a 1V when Ruger chambered for the PPC but could only afford the 77 MK-II VT at the time and that thing shot great . At present I have a Sako just like the OP's . That PPC and a 700 BDL Varmint Special 222 are my two go to bench guns .

All the SAKO heavy barrel Target/Varmint rifles are single shot. They are very heavy rifles. If you want a lighter repeater look for the Vixen Hunter in 6mm PPC

And you're only gonna shoot cast thru it, right?
Try 68 gr Berger FB Targets over H-322. If you don't get genuine SAKO 6MM PPC-USA brass you may think that there is something wrong with your rifle. The SAKO PPC-USA cartridge is dimensionaly different from the standard 6MM PPC cartridge. T319570he first firing of your Lapua or Norma brass will fire-form the cartridge to the correct size and you'll be good to go when you reload.

Hate to prove you wrong but I have a SAKO Varmint in 6PPC that is a repeater. I brought it back from Germany in the 90's and it has a swing down floor plate like most bolt guns with internal magazines. I rarely use the feature but my rifle has it. Mine shoots as great as expected. While I have loads using Berger 68's I commonly shoot two loads with a 55 gr. Ballistic Tip and a 70 gr. Ballistic tip.

We sold a pair of repeaters at the shop I worked at -1991. They were offered either way.
