Does anyone have an idea who made Frontier (Hornady) rifle brass back in the day? 30-06 if it matters.

I can't answer your question, but I remember when the first Frontier .30/06 ammo was loaded in U.S. military cases.

This is headstamped Frontier.

I have a box of it and always cleaned up better than most any thing else in my early days of handloading and primitive methods of cleaning brass. I have no idea who made it, I have some Browning 30-06 brass that is nearly the same just nice brass. Lettering font on both are the same.

When Starline brass became available with its own *-* headstamp, a lot of people wondered who made the "new" brass. The story I remember going around was that they made a lot of the seldom used or seen brass before marketing their it as their own.

I have long thought Starline may have made the first Frontier brass, with absolutely nothing but a gut feeling to go on.

I first saw Hornaday Frontier brass in the 80's long before star-line.

I have 50 I came upon, with primers. They are in .303 and sitting, empty, in a MTM box. I googled yesterday with conflicting ideas of quality and makers. Winchester was mentioned and I believe they are Win. primers.

I bought 1000 from Widener's(?), late 80's,early 90's(?). I think it was Winchester, I have both 243 and 308 with Frontier headstamp from that 'long ago'. Both weigh the same as Win brass from about that time. I still have some of it. It has held up well, I save it for heavier hunting loads due to its larger capacity. It gives me an extra 2 grains of powder over LC and other military brass without signs of pressure. Loads developed in the Frontier brass show excess pressure in LC brass.

Fwiw, always thought they were initially made by Winchester as the lettering on the case heads looked a lot like what Winchester used. Frank
