I asked a local gun shop about selling some of my primers to them. He asked how old they were. Then he says the wholesale price is between $45 and $55 dollars. I know, I've had my grain of salt. They had very little for powder and they were $45 per lb/container, including black powders.

I was at a shop today that had probably 200+ pounds of powder from $31-$40 a pound. No primers but they claimed they would have some next week. I will call them next week to see what they sell those for. The know it all at the register thought they would be $80-$100 but he was not the owner, but just a gun shop genius.

Our club just started ordering powder again, we buy enough to get wholesale prices. Haven’t seen it yet, but most powders are supposed to be in the $2X price range.

I can't address wholesale prices, however, the shop that I work at part-time is paying 2X to 3X to the distributors to get product in the door for ammo or primers.

If I owned a gun shop, I would be worried about buying inventory that is 2-3 times what it cost before this event. There is a lot of downside risk. Once the truly desperate get what they need for immediate use, they rest may sit there for a long time.

And you already have seen numerous posts about people who will boycott those stores selling at "scalper" prices even though it seems LGS costs have gone up significantly in some places...as in your case.

I know a dealer who was buying primers for $100/k last year and selling them for $115/k to "help out" his customers. That may backfire on him.

Look at the .223 55 gr FMJ ammunition. Last year, if you could find it, it was $1/rd. Now there are many places below $.50/rd.

$45 to $55 is about right. But why sell to him at that? Sell for $80 to 100 a k and help yourself and the buyer

I saw the owner of the local indoor range the other day (he is rarely in the shop, he has multiple other jobs). He said he had gotten into the commercial ammo reloading business (his focus is rifle hunting ammo). He stated that over the past year he has managed to build a stockplile of 1 M primers paying around $45 / K.

Sportsmans Warehouse had Federal 209A's for 49.90 a thousand last week. A LGS down the street had the same primers for 149.99 a thousand. I mentioned it to them.

It's a gun shop what did you expect?I'm always amazed at the people who go to a gun shop expecting to get big bucks for a gun.Almost all shops seem to offer about half what its worth.

When I lived in Az I did that once, shortly thereafter I was at Walmart and watched an employee of said gun store purchase all the rimfire ammo that was on the shelf. I’m sure it was flipped for double the price. Needless to say, I don’t frequent that establishment anymore and told all the locals to vote with their wallet and blackball them.

Any place, store or person that really price gouges should be boycotted in my opinion. I know a reasonable profit is fair but 4-5X no way.
I’m still sore about those vendors that sold glock hi cap (17-33rd)mags at $125 each when the hi cap ban took place. ( Clinton era ) ??

I would sell to fellow shooters in my club, not just anybody before I sold excess primers to a gunshop. I’ve sold half a brick to a fellow cas shooter, given away a few sleeves and swapped 3 bricks since the shortage. But don’t have anymore that i can spare now.

If you have primers to sell get a gun show table or advertise to a club with permission.
