hi all, ok got a bunch of wc680 powder and 125 gr .311 bullets. 7.62x39 and 7.62x54 brass that was given to me. one of my army friends passed away and his wife gave me all his reloading things, and a 91/59 1942 mosin nagant, a old russian sks. the thing is i dont know how much powder he was using in the reloads the win680 is no longer made, and i cant find the loading data about it. i know it is close to aa1680 but he also used it to reload 7.62x54:confused: if i read it right it is a bit fast for the 54r. anyway do any of you know how much powder to use in the 7.62x39 loads and can it be used in the 54r. thank you for your time.

For the 7.62X39, use starting data for Winchester 680, WC1680, or IMR 4198. You can use the IMR 4198 starting data and substitute the 1680 you have in the 7.62X54. I read a lot of fear between your lines. If using the powder worries you, sell it and buy what ever canister powder you will be comfortable with, no point in walking through a field if you think it may have mines in it....

I'd suggest buying an inexpensive Chrony and learning to use it. That will give you a method of comparison with published data as you work up loads, along with the usual observation of cases and primers for signs of excessive pressure.

well after some reading and emailing some folks that know alot about reloading. i was talking to a guy from montana and with his reload data i used 40 gr of the wc680 with a 125 grain speer fmj. i had a friend with a chrono and we used it at the range, i was getting 2800ish fps and about a 2 inch group at 100 yard. very light recoil in a mosin nagant 1891/59 brass looked good no blowen out primers or split necks. so looks like the fast powder under a light bullet works nice thanks for all the help. now off to do my first lead casting just got my lee moulds:castmine: and melter with about 40 pounds of ww lead so thanks again for all the help.:castmine:
