This is my first gas gun. Round count is low.
Where should i start as far as powder and cycling pressures? I have a build sheet as far as what components are there if any of that changes things.

Thank you for the advice.

Your asking for ideas on starting a load. Validate caliber your AR is in. I think you are stating .308 Winchester.

Middle loads from Hodgdon online data. Use a gas check & good lube - not that lousy blue crayon stuff if shooting cast.

Lyman cast bullet manual, start at listed minimum for boolit weight and listed powder, load 5 each going up to max in .5gr steps.
Go shoot em, pick the load that cycles the action, if none cycle go to a slower powder.
For 308, 2400, 4759, 4227,4895 should work well.

I know its not an AR, but Bruce did a lot of work with cast in the M1-A.

It should give you some ideas.

I use 4895 in mine and a 185gr boolit sized .311" and Caranuba Blue lube

So the fact it's a gas gun doesn't really change where to start?? I acquired a few loads for a Remington 742, to make them cycle was a touch faster that the RPM threshold from Larry.

Thank you everyone! I'll look at my manual

Start buy choosing a bullet design that will feed in your action, 100% of the time. My AR-10 Armalite only likes spitzer shaped bullets. Make up 10 dummy rounds and manually cycle though action. When making the dummies keep the bullet off the lands. Record your measurements. With semi autos, magazine will determine COAL, somewhat.

Forget powders faster than 4198, including 2400, 4759, 5744...........accuracy go south fast, before the action will cycle with 100% reliability.

I like Reloader 15 with NOE's (311414) 160 grain spitzer. I use Carnuba Red lube. Brass is LC recovered range brass.
