Anything to do with song dogs?

Hit a coyote with my truck. Stone dead, anything I can do with the thing? I feel bad it's dead this late in season as Mrs. Coyote will probably miss his help with the pups but it's not like I can change that now.

Never done any trapping. Not sure what I could use the hide for? Make decent gloves or something?

Not sure where you're from, but northern coyotes are still good.
If I get busy I'll sell the hide on carcass to a fur buyer at times.

Vehicle hit tend not to be worth much due to the damage. Hats or tanned pelts are what I normally see.

Heavy western coyotes are the ones still in demand right now, and averages from $70-100 are possible this year, but I’m skeptical. I would sell early if I had a reasonable offer.

The hot western coyote market has done a lot to boost eastern coyote prices in recent years. When the best quality pelts sold out, buyers looked to the eastern and flatter skins to fill orders. That’s over. While Eastern coyotes were selling for $25-45 lately, I would expect those prices to be cut in half this year. Southern and lower quality coyote pelts may get $10-15.

I'm in the northeast. I cracked the guys skull apart. You can feel the shattered bits of skull crackling around. Big boy weighs 75lbs. I'm not a trapper or furrier by trade or hobby. Just curious about what I can make that's warm I guess. I've oak tanned a few hair on deer hides but I think il use commercial HTF because cabelas stocks it again. Figure since he's dead he probably wont mind if I mess it up anyways.

Hat sounds like a good idea. I figure I have enough rugs.

Don't worry about pups right now. Breeding is just starting & such,, so no pups will be affected.

In my area,, pelts are not worth much,, AND in general,, the hides stink. Most of us do not bother skinning any.

The skull looks great after it is cleaned up. Bury it and let the bugs do the work.I glue the jaws open so people can see the wicked teeth.

In North Dakota 35 to 40 pounds are the norm for mature yotes. I did kill one that went 56 pounds but that might have been a cross with a dog. It looked normal but the color was a bit off. As to normal color phases they can run for almost white to a dark almost chocolate color on the back. The light and dark phases are relatively rare.

The coyotes in Connecticut are interbred with eastern wolves [up to 175lbs -google ]and traveled back down from what I've read online. He's was bigger and more muscular then both my pitbull mixes. But not nearly as big as a wolf.

Ive never seen a wolf but everything says they are bigger then this guy.

I think he's definitely big enough to make a warm hat.

Jim that's a good idea for the skull! Maybe the wife will even agree to that on the mantle. She likes finding the tiny bird skulls and cleaning them up for odd things.

Dermestid Beetles for Taxidermy are by far the best way to clean bones for Taxdermists. They can't fix shattered bones.

I was going to bury it wait, clean it up and if it's not too bad super glue? Kinda like a broken vase?

Maybe it's not worth doing perse but it might look cool?

Agree that I wouldn’t worry about the pups and at 75# that is not a purebred coyote. Even our Eastern yotes don’t get that big.
