I have a guy dying to buy my .45/90 but he wants to shoot Smokeless. I would like to recommend to him a cast 405 bullet with fairly light load, but everyone seems to be reluctant to give me a starting point on powder and charge. Need help.

Lots of manuals have data for it also. If I remember correctly both the Lyman 48 and 49 have smokeless loads.

27 grains of 5744 with 300gr cast. Start at 25gr and work up slow in old guns. Now, with that said and if using an old rifles like mine are, the early 1886's, and if your rifle is in great condition, like mine are, you can get small groups out to 200yds like I do. If hunting, this load has killed deere, one elk and two moose for me and with one shot kills, all at 100yds or less.
