Anybody ever fired one? I was going through the cabela's shooting catalog the other day and noticed that they're offering a double barrel 20 gauge howdah pistol. It might prove to be interesting if you've got $600 just lying around not doing anything. Back in my youth I took a single shot 20 gauge with a bad barrel and cut it up to howdah proportions, never did fire it much either. Wasn't particularly useful for anything really. Wonder what ever happened to it?

I was courious about the 11" smooth bbls. Can they do that because it is a Muzzle loader?

Freedom475 has one of those, I talked to him about it a while back and he likes it. He also makes holsters for them.

I just put about 60 balls threw mine yesterday. A LOT of fun. Shot some of them out to about 100yrds and did real well considering the front bead is the only sight. Can keep the balls in an asprin bottle at 10yrds.

I do shoot some shot and 00 through it as well. I seem to have the best luck with shot by patching a plastic 20ga shotcup.

The pattern really opens up fast and is full of holes if I just use an overpowder wad and loose shot.

$600 is a lot of cash but as usually the case you could spend $600 today or $900 in 4 years.

10-15 gr.s 3f is a real nice gallery load...45gr. is my usuall load for shot and RB's...Not near enough power to make one think of it as dangerous game protection.

At about 60grs. she really starts to shine(I have gone as high as 90grs.) Now with this load the pistol starts to feel like you may have a chance using it for protection from claws and fangs. I don't know what it would take to break the stock and at $600 I don't want to find out so I don't make a practice of using these "Protection Capable" loads.

Even with the high end loads recoil is just not...well it just doesn't kick.

Better get one ordered.... You can't spend that money after they throw dirt on your bones.:Fire:

Not a traditional breechloading "Howdah", but a rather large bore nonetheless...

Had fun with it a few years ago at a Nevada Cast Boolit Shoot..

Many years ago, I made a single barrel 12 ga muzzle loader pistol from an H&R Huntsman muzzle loader.
This was back in the day right after they were disallowed for black powder season in MA.
You could get one for $25 just about anywhere.
It had a single action styled gripframe spliced onto the action and a 10" barrel.
When fired with 100 grs of powder and 1-1/2 oz shot, you could see the face of Jesus in the resultant fireball. If you didn't hang on tight with both hands, you could meet Him in person.
The same quantity of fired primers threw a devastating pattern out to about 10 yards, not so good after.
It was mostly fun to fire salutes on Independance day, until the wife suggested that if the neighbors didn't call the police, she would.:(
Now I'm going to have to look out in the shed and see if it's still around.....

I have a 12 bore Caplock Howda. I generally shoot .690 Round Balls over 80gr 3F, though I have been known to push a Sabot Slug down there too.

It's accurate to within one minute of battleship at 25yds.

.69 caliber and I think we had over 100grs in there under a 500gr newspaper patched boolit.

.............Yup, the red cap be Al. Glen has a breech loading Howdah as his avatar. Dixie gunworks offers one but I dis-recall what guage and number of barrels it is.
