Winchester 94 Firing Pin

I just replaced a broken firing pin on a post 64, Winchester Model 94, 30-30 cal rifle. I got the firing pin from Gun Parts.

The protrusion of the new firing pin measures .045".

The only reference material I have indicates that normal firing pin protrusion for centerfire rifles in general should be a minum of .055" to a maximum of .065". I do not have any reference specific to the Model 94.

I fired three shells loaded only with Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers and do not see any apparent problem. I'll take the rifle to the range sometime over the next few days and run some cast loads through it.

Does anyone know if this short of a firing pin will be prone to give problems?

For the record, I've fired about 30 rounds of cast bullet 30-30 loads loaded with Winchester LR Magnum primers with no indication of problems due to the "short" .045 firing pin protrusion.

Glad your 94 is back in the land of the living. In all the years I've used 94's I've never measured the firing pin protrusion.

I have one question for you though ............ why are you using mag primers in a 30-30?
