I am thinking about building a 38-55 to shoot paper wrapped bullets with around a 260 grain bullet.
I'll be using it for hunting and plinking up to 200 yards.
Does anyone have a suitable boolit they can measure the length, I am wanting to get a barrel rolling but need to figure the twist rate.

I believe both Noe and Accurate moulds give dimensioned drawings on their web sites. It might be best to look up the design you want and see what it is length wise.

I shoot this one in my 38-55 H&R.

Says it's 1.160" long. The rifle has a 1:18 twist and it performs very well.

I use a custom RCBS mold that drops at 335 gr that is 1.280" long. It is designed for my rifle chamber and is good to about 600 yards but has hit targets at 1000 yards but not consistent. Twest is either 12 or 14, I can't get a constant count.

I strongly suggest you get a 12 twist barrel, for maximum versatility.
Green Mountain carries barrels in 12 twist. good barrels.
You can then shoot bullets up to about 1.4" long/ 345 grain such as the Buffalo Arms Jim 371345E DDEPP ( dual diameter elliptical paper patch). And the barrel will also shoot well with shorter bullets in the 260 grain range. As well as grease groove if you want.

You might want to to measure th rifle bore twist rate which will probably measure 1:18 …
And forget about chasing any of the 38-55 bullets because they will calculate for a 1:18 bore
