Had a great hunt in the snow the other day in which I had my Glenfield model 30A (.30-30) that was rebored by JES to .375 Winchester. This rifle was "ridden hard and put away wet" and it really needed to be brought back to life. Between the suggestions from "725" (CB member), the work from JES and me it came out pretty darn good. I took two nice does using a load that was worked up by "725". His load is a 238 grain Ranch Dog mold "boolit" with 29 grains of 3031 w/copper gas check. Both does were center punched at 80 yards and I put a follow up shot on the larger doe. I still need to figure out the posting of photos since I have a bunch from start to end on this project.

Good job! Fresh venison is always good! Congrats on the 2 does ! I wish I could use the 375 winchester in my area, but case is too long. Length allowed is 1.8" max.

Good afternoon and Congratulations x2 ! Thank you for the photos.
That should keep the table time happy !
Jes does a good job! We have several and each is a fine cast shooter.

Well done. I have happened to see that rifle in the before and after condition and Old Footman did class job bringing back to life. Hoping for more photos.

Good job! And good job treating that rifle with the respect it sorely needed. So far my Jes 38-55 is perfect deer repellent. Maybe next year!

todd9.3x57 ~ I've used bronze wool with some kind of oil (doesn't seem to matter what oil) to work on surface rust. Has worked good for me. I've never found copper wool, but now I'll keep an eye out for it.

Thank you for your comments. I spent some time with files, scrapers, emory & sand paper, oil, etc on this project. Turned out to be a good working rifle. Again thank you for your comments.

I also had JES cut down the barrel and magazine tube (725 recommended this to me). It now holds 3 cartridges in the tube and 1 in the chamber.

Thanks for posting. That cartridge is quite a long straight wall. Intriguing, to say the least. You did that old rifle proud and it paid off well.

Outstanding on collecting venison and rifle restoration! I have a friend that has a Model 64 rebored by JES to .375-55 and he told me a few weeks back he was thinking about selling and now I want it! I don't need it, I don't need it, I don't need it....maybe I can talk myself out of buying.

But Then Again you may need it & are mistaken about not needing it. Maybe ponder in the other direction, might make a fine Tool, & tools are Necessary.

I feel the urge, nice job on the rework. I just got a 375 94 XTR, then the brass and RCBS dies, some jacketed bullets and a 250g plain base mold. So the big bore found a new home. Nice older Win.

JDL - Hope you fail in your quest to talk yourself out of it :) ! It's a super cartridge and a pure joy to use. ! Try it - you'll like it. !

I bought a 30A Glenfield a few years ago. It was in decent shape but a little wear on the wood. It was in Sporting Carbine configureation (20" barrel, half-magazine). I had JES bore it to 38-55. It was already the slickest, smoothest, best trigger I had ever seen on a Marlin, and now it is my favorite next to my '50 .35 336AD. I've got Lyman and Lee moulds for it so I can shoot gas-checks or not. I've sighted it for 255 gr Barnes J-words right now, over a stiff dose of 3031, but it seems to shoot well with about anything. I retired last fall, but had ticker problems through the spring. I'm looking forward to getting in the woods with it this year.

I'm just waiting for my buddy to set a price and don't want to appear too anxious!:) I think he's found something he wants so it shouldn't be much longer....hopefully.

Hope you can get it, JDL. You'll love it. I'm with Alan with that Barnes 255 grain .38-55 bullet. Just perfection. I've been looking and can not find any anywhere. Hope they come back in production.

I recently purchased a 94AE 30-30 to send to JES but have not had time to ship it Ordered brass, molds & dies all ready to go except we've been working on our church replacing termite damaged flooring & it's a slow go just two of us. Really looking forward to getting it shipped, converted & back home. I have a great wife, she actually encourages me to take on gun projects.
