Anyone have a recommendation for a heeled 25 caliber bullet for a Stevens Model 44. I'm having all kinds of fun shooting
a 40 grain air rifle slug but . . . Thanks in advance

I thought model 44's were 22 cal. is the barrel marked as to what caliber gun is?

I load and shoot a lot of .25 Stevens centerfire. Why a heel bullet? This is not a heel bullet cartridge.

This is a discussion I started a while back about mine.

Sorry not very informative in my post - this is the 25 rimfire. I though it was originally loaded with a heeled bullet. I'm probably wrong.

I suggest you check your rifle's groove diameter. Early rifles were .251" groove, but many later ones were .257". If it is .251", then .25acp cast bullets can be used. If .257", there are several molds available. I've shot mine as both rimfire and centerfire - great fun.

As ndnchf mentioned - 25 Stevens was not historically a heeled bullet.
Here is a photo of a 25 Short next to a 32 short (heeled bullet). I also use an ancient 25 acp mould to reload for mine.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220110/580920eee77b5714dd120f27678b613f.jpg

44s were made in .22 rimfire as well as .25 and .32 RF and in various CF chamberings up to .32-40. The 44's lockup is now considered inadequate for most CF cartridges.
