Noe copy of the Egan boolit sized to .311, Ben's red, and 4198. First try and the planets aligned. The hole at 11 o'clock was me tensing up after Mrs.Thumbcocker told me I had a great group going. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220101/b9a2bc5f0d4d9d91aa5f41b848d4e069.jpg

Congrats! Seems as though the new year is already looking up for you. I have a pile of test loads building up on the bench, just haven't had time to get out. 40's and raining right now. Looks like a good day to just kick back.
Happy new year!

What kind of sights you got on that gun, I need those sights on my gun[emoji39]Leupold 2x7. May put a vortex with the little lines on the bottom post. I want to try 200 and 300 yards.

There is a reason competition targets are black.

Mind elaborating on what the Egan bullet is?

Very nice. I'm about to try cast in one of my 06's. What kind of velocity are you getting?

Have not chronographed this load. Just starting out you should look at loads in the 1750 to 1800 fps range. I think this is going a bit faster than that.

My Eagan moulds drop tapered bullets. Did you size the taper out of yours?

Bottom band is .314. I size to .311.

Sizing base-first, so the whole bullet is .311"?

The boolit is tapered. .314, .310, .306? Etc. Mostly the gas check is crimped and the base sized. Kinda like the old single shot boolits that would fit in a fired case.

Brain fade. the upper bands of mine are .306/.307/.308 respectively, so they wouldn't get sized. My base bands are .312, and when I was shooting them (in a K31) I'd crimp the GC in a .312 die and then pan-lube to preserve the taper. PITA but they did shoot some impressive groups, cast very hard and driven 2100 fps.

Oh, I see. Not really the real Eagan style, but easier to lube. My moulds are both nose pour and brass. He apparently made moulds to fit throats, so seemingly no two are alike. Both moulds have a drawing in the box, but the contrast is so poor that I won't try to photograph them.

No problem lubing in a .311 die in a Lyman sizer.

'cuz only the nose and the first band are tapered.

That drawing may not be right. The boolit I used was a clone of the Saco 315. Can't find a drawing of that. My boolits are. 314 at the base and taper from there.
