Copper colored primers with W OR US are cheap corrosive and mercuric 1900 to 1920s

My Dad gave me a single round of 30 WCF with the W stamped in the primer. He told me it was probably a black powder factory loaded round.

.30-30 was never factory loaded with black powder.

I thought the .30-30 was a blackpowder round to start with? .30 caliber, 30 grns. of blackpowder? Made the transition to smokeless.

30-30 Winchester - Wikipedia
[Search domain en.wikipedia.org] https://en.wikipedia.org › wiki › .30-30_Winchester
When the cartridge was chambered in the Marlin Model 1893 rifle, rival gunmaker Marlin used the designation .30-30 or .30-30 Smokeless. The added -30 stands for the standard load of 30 grains (1.9 g ) of early smokeless powder and is based on late-19th century American naming conventions for black powder-filled cartridges.
