I've got a mid-90s vintage MKII competition target model (slabside 6-7/8" bbl) and I love it. Off of sand bags with a 2x Leupold and the proprietary steel mounts that came with the gun, I was getting 10 shot groups into 1" @ 50 yards. I had a 4x Burris and a 7X 30mm Tasco that I also tried, but groups didn't get any smaller; I quite simply couldn't hold the gun still enough to make use of the extra magnification.

While the group size was outstanding, that wasn't the best part.... I tried about 10 different brands of ammo that day, including some pretty pricey stuff from Eley; the best accuracy came from that Federal bulk stuff you get in the blue box at WalMart. Truly. Accurate, and cheap to shoot. What's not to love?

Years ago I had a 'smith install a scope mount on a bull-barrel MkII. He had to drill and tap the top of the receiver. It came out perfect, and he glued the scope mount to the receiver (not permamently). I think he also cut the contour of the scope mount to match the radius of the receiver.

That MkII was one heck of a good gun...

I have two Ruger 22's, a 6 7/8" heavy tapered barrel and a 7 7/8" fluted MKIII. Both are great shooters, they will digest any 22LR ammo and shoot better than I can see these days. I installed McCormick sears in both to clean up the triggers a bit but that was the only gripe I had with them and it was not a deal killer. Best deal on a 22 simi-auto I have found.

Depending on when the MMKII was made it might already be drilled and tapped for a mount.

If this is the case brownell's carries about three or four different type's.

If it's not drilled and tapped that's still not a problem, Brownell's has a no drill and tap mount!

Bought one of these and it replaces the rear sight with a threaded block that the mount bolts into. Very firm mount and, since the 22 has no recoil, it has never come loose.

It is a few more dollars than the "regular" mounts but if you have to pay someone to do additional work on the gun what have you saved??

Hi Mike,

I've got the MGW mount seen here and ordered from Gil Hebard. It was less than $30 when I ordered it.

It was pretty simple to install, just drift out the rear sight and put in the new block.
I put some loctite on the screw and it's held for about 2 years. some holster wear (at the matches) and hasn't worked loose yet. It was either this or get a Volquartsen upper. I've been happy so far.

Forgot to mention, they have a blued version as well. That's the one I used.

I have a 10" MKII. I have a BSquare mount that clamps around the reciever and uses the rear sight to lock it into place. I tighten everything farmer tight and managed to pull the threads out of the offside of the mount. I drilled it out and use a 3/16 machine screw with a nut to keep everything tight. (Did I mention I come from farming stock)

I shoot smallbore silhouette and managed a 40x40 with it first time out. That was with sighting in at 25 yards and using Kentucky windage for turkeys and Rams. I am pretty sure I was using aguila ammo. Might have to try it on the runts.

Burris makes one. Fits in rear sight slot and clamps on the barrel. Had one on a MK1 and it didn't move. Any mount will leave marks on the receiver.

Mike, The clamp on front weavers work on a super blackhawk, they should hold a 22. Gianni

I adapted a Weaver mount for my MkII, wish I could tell you which Weaver mount it is but time has eroded that from my memory. It involved milling a radius on the mount and drilling and tapping the reciever and a notch in the mount for the take down pin.

I also have this B-Square mount for the MKII, just slide on the barrel and tighten the screws. if you want it it's yours PM you addy.

I have one of the Solow clamp mounts on a MKI and have been very happy with it. No drilling or tapping.

The B-Square works great - use mine with a red dot. It does add more weight than a dovetail, but unless you're shooting Bullseye one-handed that's no consideration.

you can epoxy a weaver one piece base on and it will stay until you intentionally knock it off, if you just want to try a scope. cheapest way to go to make a test. flounderman

I have the MK II Target 5.5" Barrel with the B-Square and a red dot. East to install using the existing holes from the front and rear sight.
