OK: I think I am getting close to a bullet That will give me good accuracy and hold up to max Velocities?
mold is a 280473 GC. 136grs add the gas check and its a 140gr bullet.
Mix is a Lyman #2 .. 10# batch 5# lead, 4# linotype, and 1# 50/50 solder. BHN is 16 to 16.6.
I loaded up a few using SR 4759 at 1700f/s and at 50 yrds was about a 2" group.
The next load Will progress to near max. Ill work up in 2gr increments
IMR3031 at 31grs will be 2200f/s
" " " 42.8 max 2900f/s.
:Fire: Has anyone experimented with the 270?
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks

I couldn’t get the accuracy I wanted out of 140s. 130gr Nosler Partitions and 60.9gr of H4831, however, give me an avg of 3029fps and are just under 1 MOA at 100yds out of a factory Rem 700 with a 26” barrel. That’s “Hunting” good.

Thanks Ray, The 130gr bullet is the crown jewel for 270. If you try H100V powder, let us know how you liked it. 26" barrel 130gr bullet you might get 3300f/s. if you are a velocity junkie
Im going to test out the 136gr cast bullets. and later the 126gr bullets from the Lyman molds.
There is not much load data for higher velocity loads over 2500f/s.
As soon as I get a clear day here in Oh-hi ill shoot across a Chrony and start to compile data.
Ill be ready by next year deer season. There is something to be said about getting a deer with your own reloads, Cast bullets.
Thanks

Mine is a 270 Savage loaded with that very same Lyman 280473 boolit which weighs 139gn with powder coating and gas check. I have found that a 7mm gas check fits this boolit better than a 270 one. My load is 29.5gn of 3031 for 2580 fps with good accuracy and no leading.

BAW what did you get for an OAL 3.15" ? is 29.5grains correct? reloading manual has 31grs as a min. load?
Do you put the GC on after the powder coat?
Thanks

It is a 250/3000 case necked up to 270. 29.5gns is correct for the smaller case with the Lyman boolit. Yes, I fit the 7mm gas check after powder coating.

Arisaka action with Douglas 1:10" twist barrel, this is one of my most used cast boolit shooters.

I have three molds for my old Mod. 70 270, an old Lyman Loverin 120, an NOE 128, and a Lee 140. Both the Lee 140 gets fair accuracy and the NOE 128 gives me the best accuracy. Accuracy in my rifle seems to be between 1750 and 2000 which will be more than adequate for deer out to about 125 yards. The real surprise has come from the plain base cavity in the NOE 128 gr. mold (it has the gas check cavity in this two cavity mold). That PB boolit gets outstanding accuracy using Red Dot powder for 1350 fps which, while not for deer, will make it a fine coyote killer as far as I can use the iron sights.

Thanks, I am working on 5 different loads for Mod 70 Winchester. The first one is a load SR4756 14.5grs. mold 280412 with the gas check i am getting 140grs. OAL3.10". estimate velocity around 1750f/s.
the next load is with IMR 3031. mold is 280473 with the gas check the are 129grs.
starting load is 33grs, 36grs, 39 grs, near max at 42 grains.
OAL is yet to be determines. I will shoot these over a chronograph
All bullets are lubed with A-Lox.
The load will be crimped using a 270-factory crimp die.
Right now i am waiting on a little better weather.
Thanks.:coffee:[smilie=w:

Sounds like that 270x300 might be close to the 6.8 SPC capacity, which is basically a 270x30 Rem. Been thinking about trying cast PCed in my ARs in 6.8. I have two cats based on the 6.8 that work fine with cast PC bullets now.
