Looking for some guidance here. I have a Marlin 36A in .32Spl. Shooting 170gr j-words at factory velocities, POI is roughly 8" high @ 50yds with the elevator completely removed from the rear sight. The current front sight measures .290" from the base of the dovetail to the top of the bead. Williams offers replacement gold bead front sights in an assortment of heights. I'm thinking either the .343" or .375" would get me where I want to be?

Also, I will most likely put a rear peep sight on this rifle in the near future, so maybe a taller front sight would be a better option?

Looks like you need the POA to come down quite a bit.
I'd expect it to be a little high at 50 yards, but not that much.
I'd get the .375 and it might be enough to put the rear sight ramp back in.
As I recall, they drift out to the right.

.

You can assure the correct front sight height via taping a piece of cardboard to the side of the existing front with it's top about .40" higher than the top of the barrel.

Replace the rear sight ramp and raise the sight to the middle of it's elevation range

Shoot & mark the POI target @ 100yds.

If the POI's lower than the POA, cut the height of the cardboard a little & repeat as req'd until the rifle zeroes.

If the POI is still higher then the POA, replace the cardboard post with one about .50" high & shoot/check the POI and cut down in increments as above.

Measure the new height of the cardboard post & order a new sight with that measurement (+/-).

OR check this out and follow the directions. It's not difficult.

If you have to push out the old sight to install a new one I can’t tell you how good the Wyoming Sight drifters are for moving dovetailed sights.
