Does anyone have a mould for wadcutter boolits designed to be shot from a .32 H&R or similar cartridge? I'm trying to locate a few samples for a project, I'd like to try launching a paper patched .30 cal wadcutter from my .30 herrett at warp speed. I figure the idea might make for a good varmint load. thank ya.

I'm wondering if the poor aerodynamics and stability of the wadcutter wouldn't be extremely limiting in such a planned use. I can't imagine a worse shape for Mach 2+ speed.

I'm not worried too much about velocity loss, would probably be used for stuff under 50yds. More of one of those 'what if' projects than anything else. Betchya it hit like a brick *%$# house though.

I have a sorta strange 32 caliber wadcutter mould, Lyman #313492. It resembles a smallbore version of Lyman #358432, with a bore-rider front button. The boolit shot VERY well in 32 S&W Long, but like most wadcutters it fell apart ballistically at 60-65 yards. The RCBS SWC 98 grainer took on much of my 32 caliber heavy lifting since its arrival on scene.

I don't think I've ever driven #313492 past 800 FPS.

Al -- the 313492 at around 950 fps is a small game load extraordinaire! Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

Has anyone here tried the NEI 313-90-GC #78?

Yes, I have that mould in plain-based form. It shoots quite well in .32 S&W Long.

Thank you Glen. I have an RCBS 32-098-SWC on order. After having read the Handloader article, I think a GC design would be be a better alternative for smoothing out my SP101 .327 than jacketed.

Hornady used to make a nice swaged WC in 32 cal. Like their 32 swaged SWC it shot good for me. I don't believe I have and left, but they may be available from Midway, etc.

I'm sorry monadnock#5, I mis-spoke. When I looked my mould up in the NEI table, I was looking at #78A (the wadcutter), not the bullet you asked about, #78 (the RNFP). We were talking about wadcutters, so I was thinking "wadcutters" and I didn't answer your question accurately. Sorry about that. I haven't shot #78 in either plain-base or GC form.

If you're going to fire-lap your .327, the RCBS 98 grain SWC should do just fine.

No problem Glen. That's what I get for attempted hijacking.
