I have a .45 Colt Uberti and the forcing cone looks like a cheese grater. Should I get the 11 degree cutter, or the 5 degree cutter? Am I right in figuring the 5 degree will be more accurate, but may take a long time to cut? What are the drawbacks of the 5 degree cut?

If shooting cast bullets, the 11 degree cutter works best. If you are nor comfortable doing this yourself, send your revolver to DougGuy and he can cut the forcing cone AND true up the cylinder mouths.

I use the 11 degree and then after cutting use a brass lap and polish the forcing cone like a mirror, no leading.

DougGuy is the one to ask on this. Pretty sure he will say 11

You can rent the cutter kit online. Use the 11 degree cutter. At first it will feel like you are tearing the rifling out of the barrel, then it will smooth out. Beware when this smoothness happens, the cutter cuts pretty fast so stop and check often.

I don't use the brass lap and compound, I use a thin piece of worn out fine Scothcbrite, 1 1/4" x 5/8" put a hole in it and thread it onto the rod followed by the brass lap. Press this into the forcing cone and give it a couple of twists and you are done.

The brass lap used with compound often created new grooves in the newly cut forcing cone, the Scotchbrite does not.
