With the current shortages of everything, I have decided to dig out my rubber band guns. Need to work up some accurate loads for them. Which rubber bands have you all found to be the most accurate out of yours?

Out of my newer style, laser cut, “1911” I found great luck with the office max brand bands and could double them up for “magnum” loads. Accuracy would allow me to hit 2” spring targets across the room.

For my traditional plastic wheel gun from when I was a kid, it prefers Walmart double thick bands.

Correct sizing is imperative!

I have had no luck with Powder coating.

I planted my own gum trees years ago just for such an occasion. I'm harvesting and processing my own rubber, and making bands using a mold made from machined aluminum. Using a cutter I made from a converted paper cutter, I am able to produce my own bands, from start to finish.

The entire setup only cost me about $10,000 and I should start saving money by the year 2090.

I have found that you can use the cheap ones for plinking as long as you make sure the tension is equal on both sides. If you are interested in mass destruction get the Gatling Gun version.

Personally, I prefer the primitive single shot antique load on my fingers.

Using a high quality carnuba wax on all the contact surfaces seems to work well. A clean release is critical even with quality bands GW

The best are those cut from recycled bicycle inner tubes! Velocity and impact energy can be controlled by the width/thickness cut and old tubes can be begged/borrowed/stolen from all the "Greenies" in your Woke neighborhood. Bicycle tubes---the modern WW!!!

45acp for scale, “magnum” my dad bought me on a road trip 30 or so years ago, RubberBandTech gun is from a manufacturer here in the Lansing, Mi area that I came across at the Mason Gun show, you punch out laser cut panels and assemble yourself. Outside panels can be customized for different woods.

This post has caused all he rubber bands to be soaked up by the hoarders. No rubber bands in Staples, Office Max or Wal-Mart. All sizes up to 48" are wiped out.
Local gun show and Gumbroker had them at 4X the normal price. I'll not give that. I'll will shoot rimfire first.
Biden has stopped the importation of all rubber bands from Russia and China
Gumchester, Remrubber and Federal Expansion Products are working 24-7 to try to meet demand.
Your old rubber bands will last longer if you soak them in WD40.
I am not hurting ,I found a stash that Annie Oakley had. How long will rubber bands last if stored in a garage?
Can a rubber band gun be converted to shoot black powder?

Looking at that website, I see crew served rubber band guns in the future.

i know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy........whatever, but this guy makes a rubber band ghost gun. he can make them in a revolver, semi pistol, bolt, pump, single shot(including muzzleloaders, both percussion and flint), levers, semi rifle(includes ARs and AKs). he is going to do a crew served rubber band machine gun, but he's waiting on the parts.

You guys really need to step it up a notch to the crew served rubber band guns that use tractor inner tubes. Just saying.

MY rubber band gun was custom hand made to order in Italy, took me five years to get, and, if I do my part, will print two inch groups at twenty five feet all day long.

I can see a forthcoming problem: possible keyholing a distances over 20 yards. You might try another color.

No mention of Powder Coating the rubber bands. Should get exorbitant claims on higher velocity, less stretch of the band, slicker to use, etc. ad nauseum.....

Let's see; there's talcum powder, graphite powder, face powder, dust powder collected from dryers, and my oh my what could be found in the "powder room"..............:guntootsmiley:

If you do PC/HT them do you need gas checks? Those could cause mass destruction.

I once had one that shot the caps from pop bottles. They would go flying like little freebies. Not very accurate, but fun for kids.

the downside of rubber band propellant's is they are even more susceptible to deterioration from improper storage than are smokeless powders.

Thanks for the pictures - truly inspiring!

Now it's got me to thinking seriously about making one. I'm thinking a rubber band long gun though. I always liked to shoot muzzleloading round ball with fellows in a club I used to be in so I woke up last night sort of designing it in my head. I'm thinking something more along the line of a long gun similar to the old "market guns" that were 4 gauge. Lots of horses here in Arizona so cheap "road apple" projectiles that should be ballistically superior to my original thoughts of making a rubber band cannon and using one pound plastic containers filed with rabbit droppings - similar to "grape shot" concept. I figure a 42 inch barrel launcher with some good quality surgical tubing - have to keep the velocity below 750 FPS so the road apples don't fly apart which cold happen with the fresh ones. If the prototype works out, I can start making 'em in the garage . . . . get me a pair of them fancy night vision goggles that the Tallyban has on sale this month at their Uncle Joe Military Surplus Store and I'll be all set for night maneuvers . . . . . .SPLAT! SPLAT!
