So I wind up having to adjust the set screw...again...about every three shots. I've read all the articles on the fixes, including don't drill the cam.

Got new set screws from Numrich (both of them....the inner hex key stripped almost immediately).

Wondering if it would be doable / easier to replace the H&R cam system with Pedersoli (square) cam.

Installed an original M78 rear sight "C" and it groups very well with 55gr Pyrodex 2F and 31gr 3031.

But in it's current state it's unmanageable. :(

I replaced the whole breach block assembly on both my H&R TDs [Officers Model and LBH Carbine] with original SA breach blocks. Took a bit of fitting/filing but wasn't difficult. I have posted how i did it before here and can post again if interested?

That would be awesome if you could. I'm no stranger to filing and fitting.

LOVING THE FRONT SIGHT ON THE CARBINE!

That whole set-up is to die for.

That's really not an uncommon problem with these H&R's. Two of my N-SSA team mates had them and they both ''self ejected''. I don't remember how, or if they found a fix for them. I do remember one of them figured out it was either the cam or the cam recess wasn't letting it lock properly. Best advice I can give is, do a close comparison with an original and take measurements of both and compare. Not all are like this, but it isn't an uncommon problem with them.

Yes, saw those threads. I don't really have access to drill presses, etc so if an original block can be fitted with hand files that will be the way to go.

Had I known these problems existed with these H&Rs I'd have never bought it. But I'm in too deep to just dump it on GnBrker.

One more option is to Loctite 680. https://www.amazon.com/Loctite-442-68015-Retaining-Compound-Viscosity/dp/B000O05BXW/ref=asc_df_B000O05BXW?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80745440785549&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584345016361853&psc=1

The set screw doesn't come loose, per se. It's sliding ever so slightly each shot across the cam lever rod. I have thought about indenting it slightly to give it better grab, but again, no drill press, etc.

It's heartbreaking, really. The thing groups tight as hell, but wants to be a problem child. Once fixed, however, it's never getting sold and will become primary for a lot of different things.

The 680 would not be for the set screw. 680 is very permanent and not for use of screws. It will permanently bond the cam to the cam lever rod.

Standard fix for these has been to dimple the shaft, then put in 2 set screws, one atop The other. Mine's been holding fine over a decade now.

I see. That is a different animal. Take apart the assembly and work that in there along the rod?

I've got the two set screws.

Dimpling could be done with a ball bit on the dremel. (carefully)
