Anyone with experience using w572 in the 357 mag. Use under a 358 cast no check 158 grain bullet. Likes, dislikes??? Looking for a max of 1100 fps.

I used Winchester 572 and 473 YEARS back
All my notes on these 2 powders are somewhere in the reloading room LOL

I used the Winchester 572 in 38 special , light 357 mag loads and 32 H&R mag

But what I can remember is the Winchester 572 worked a lot better for me
I was able to work up accurate loads in both the 38 special and 32 H&R mag
From memory the 572 was dirty , lots of round un burnt powder or powder not 100% burned
I shot IHMSA Field Pistol with the 32 H&R Mag shot in a 10" TC Contender with a 100 gr plain base bullet
These loads were worked up to be accurate , but as little recoil as possible
I do remember I switched powder the next year for the 32 H&R Mag

The 38 Spec and 357 Mag were shot in a DW Model 10 with mostly a 6" barrel with 158 gr SWC plain base bullets
Groups were OK , but never great
But I was loading (About for both) 800 FPS and 900 FPS ..... probably loaded to 1000 FPS not sure
I do know I was using up powder that I had bought to load Skeet Shells
And after I had used up the extra powder , I found a cleaner powder to use

The loads in the 38 Spec and 357 Mag seemed to shoot better and were cleaner when I used a Magnum Small Pistol primers
In the 32 H&R Mag I used Small Rifle Mag primers and got a cleaner burn ( but still somewhat dirty )
But I have no clue of 100% sure what pressures or velocity I was getting in any of the loads
But I do remember I switched to the start load when I switched primers
