Vintage Remington 308 125gr jacketed bullets

I picked up several hundred of these bullets about 15 years ago at an estate sale. These defiantly pre date bar codes, Not sure if Remington always used the name core lokt, or if these date prior to that. I am wondering what cartridge Remington intended these bullets to be loaded in? Thinking that most Hunting calibers call for 150gr and heavier, they are also 308 dia so I would think that rules out 7.62X39. Any information on age of packaging, intended cartridge, were they a good bullet would be much appreciated.

I'm thinking 30 carbine maybe. I've shot some light stuff out of my .308 messing around looking for a varmint load.

I think the 'core lock' label came along in 1939.
It is marketed as a deep penetrating, controlled expansion hunting bullet with good weight retention.

The military settled on 147 gr. as their idea of perfect for the 7.62NATO,
125s are still pretty popular for good accuracy, good killing power, and reduced recoil in .308Win.
and do real well for long range varmint hunting with a .30-06.

Remington factory .308 and .30-06 ammo in 125gr is called 'managed recoil' and is still offered on the shelf.
They say it puts the fun back in shooting.

They would make good Grand Kid loads in the .308 and 30-06. They should work well on the .300 Blackout.

I was surprised to see Corelocks went back that far. Maybe because my father always bought the cheapest ammo he could find.

I don’t think they were produced for a particular cartridge. Probably whatever you wanted to use it in. They sure would go fast out of a 300 Win mag.

I use a 125 Spitzer in my Ruger 308. I also had a Ruger bolt gun 7.62x39 that was a .308 bore and shot your 308 bullet. I would pull the .311 bullet and resize the mouth and use a better .308 like yours and was a lot more accurate.

I would date mid 60's to mid 70's by my poor recollection.

I agree with the mid 60's to late 70's the way the boxes are designed. Still no definite on what they were intended to be loaded in. So here is what I am going to load with them. 3030 win 125 soft point going to shoot them out of a savage 340 bolt action, and a savage 219/220. I have a lot of RL12 I purchased a few years back I think I'll start with that and if I need to I can try others. both Iron site guns we'll see how this winter project turns out.

Mid 70's to later 80's. Bought some in the late 80's. Think they were for managed recoil (youth) loads. IIRC, they were pretty tough. Use to shoot them in IHMSA and they just left a small quarter sized mark on the targets instead of a larger one from bullets disintigrating

Remember when Midway used to sell bulk bullets??. Down to my last 500 of the 125 grain 30 caliber and about 700 of the 165 grain 30 caliber. Have 5 boxes of the 180 grain round nosed 30 caliber that Remington used in the 30-40 Krag. Those I got when a large gun store went out of business. Same style box Scooby showed in his post. Frank

It might have been solely for the reloading and not factory loaded, at least on a large basis. A season or 2 of slow sales and it gets dropped from the ammo line and goes for sale as this.

Meaning, it could have flopped market wise factory loaded so the majority was sold as components.

I still have several partial boxes left of different calibers of Remington bullets in boxes like that. Early to mid 70's.

They would be great in my Contender .30-30 or .30 Herrett.

Those would work well in a .30 HRT or 300 BO.

The 308 Varminters with the 1-12 twists would love those. +1 on the 30-30 guns, also.
