Anyone here using the 200 gr LFN bullets for the .44 special?

I notice they are touted as the nuts for cowboy action shooting. I don't do that, I'm just looking to assemble some light paper punching loads and am considering them as an alternative to the classic 240-250 gr SWC bullet.

Thoughts?

Yeah, it works quite nicely. The Saeco bullet is quite accurate in my guns:

Lee has a 200g mould like that and I have used it in both 44 mag light to medium loads and my 44 special also. Shot good in the 44 special.

I use it in 44spl cases that I use for light loads in my 44mag blackhawk. I find 7gr unique works very well. I buy nickle cases for the 44spl and brass for the mag so I don't get them mixed up. It is a good boolit and saves 50gr of lead with every hole punched in the paper.

I use the Saeco 446 a 200rf in 44sp/mag and 44-40(CAS) with 4-5gr Red Dot

I was thinking of that very Lee bullet. An inexpensive proposition, even in a six banger.

I shoot the Lee 200 gr in my 44-40 and 44 mag. They shoot real good out of the wheel guns. My Redhawk is scoped and I shot 4 inch groups at 50 yds with it. I do good at killing clay pigeons with at at 75 yds also with it. That is saying a lot because I am not a pistol shooter. I have a couple but I've never had much use for one. The rifles on the other hand, my 66 winnie with the Iron sights shoots 5 of them in less than 3 inches at 100 yds with 10.5 grs of Unique. One of the best all around shooting boolits I have.

Best wishes from the Boer Ranch,

Joe

I use 5.7 gr of Accurate #5 behind the Lee .429-210 RNFP and it shoots great in my Vaqueros and my Marlin Cowboy.

According to my data I used a Lasercast 200gr. RNFP over 5.5gr. Titegroup lit with a WLP primer COAL was 1.445. Also used 5.4gr. Reddot with the same bullet and primer. They shot well out of the Taurus .44spec. I used to have.[smilie=b: They did well in a Super Redhawk as well.

Mine is a 210gr RNFP custom Lee that was run over at the SASS Wire many years ago. It is a BIG LUBE boolit, so can be used for Black Powder as well as smokeless.

I load 44 Specials with 5.6grs of W231 for a 45ACP equivalent load.

For Cowboy shooting, I'm loading 44 Russians to the same power as the original 44 Henry Rimfire. To achieve that, I'm using 4.4grs of W231 with the same boolit.

These are very mild loads and quite accurate. Not much for longer-range shootin' though. Definitely 50yard loads! [smilie=l:

Kinda depends on your outlook on EvilBay, but these Lyman moulds work quite well for lighter loads in the .44 Spl.:

The 427 666 is a 200 grain FN, and the 427 98 is a 205 grain FN.

Then there's the 429215 at 210 grains in a SWC GC, which I especially like in my light weight Charter Bulldog.

The Saeco 44 225 is a 225 RN design that may be a bit heavier than you're looking for, but it's still a good one.

Then there are the Lee, NEI, etc., out there.:coffee:

I use the Saeco RFN cowboy bullet cast of WW. For the 44 Special I load either 5.5gr/AA #2, 5gr/Trail Boss or 16gr/American Pioneer FFG. The trail boss load is the most accurate. I use these loads in my revolvers, my 1873 Winchester copy or my Marlin Cowboy. The velocity is just shy of 1000fps from the rifles and I cant find where I ever chronographed the revolvers, but I would guess about 700fps.

My RV 44 Mags do quite well with Big Lube™ Mav Dutchman RNFP 200 grain boolits over a compressed charge of FFFg Holy Black. My Browning 92s like 'em too.
