I recently downed this wild hog in north Florida shooting my Mossberg 30-30 carbine. It was a clean head shot at a sleeping hog during mid afternoon. The animal never knew what hit her.

30-30 is a keeper!

I always thought lever guns were perfect for hogs. Short barrel for when in brush and quick to reload.

I like the wood on that Mossy!
Best looking Mossy I’ve seen!
I hope Ruger abandoned the Phatt wood that Marlin was addicted to.
My ‘70’s Marlin has similar “contoured” wood. Matches the receiver!

Went on a "hog hunt" in TN, back when I was in the Canoe Club... thought my 357 would be the Bomb...
Spent alot of time in a damn tree...whilst my friend (a local) smoked a couple of them nasty buggers with his 45-70 levergun!!!
Lesson Learned... 35 Remington Now... BAM!!!!

I love it when a plan comes together.

When the rubber meets the road, the lowly .30/30 lever action may be the best general purpose rifle I have....and I have owned a lot of rifles and calibers.

Effective to 200 yards on deer, handy to lug in the swamps when bear hunting with dogs, decent coyote rifle, if the SHTF....a good defense rifle. And it will shoot cast bullets if I ever need to.

I have three of them.

OP....nice shot!

Back in the day, when I lived on the Big Island of Hawaii, the 30/30 was THE gun to shoot hogs. I have shot hundreds of them along with goats and feral sheep. It kills way out of proportion to what the "paper ballistics" say it should.
