To alloy or not?

I've always used pure lead for casting round ball but I'm going to start casting conicals. I'm casting for a .50 cal. 1in28 barrel. Pure lead or an alloy for the conicals? Thanks, James

I use pure lead with a light touch of tin added for better fillout. The tin probably isn't necessary. In my experience, large conicals need a lot of heat...think 800* +/-. I cast for 54 Cal, I can't imagine 50 Cal would be much different.
