Are they pure lead or an alloy and is 80 cents per pound a reasonable price? Thanks, James

All I have found were pure , though some have a wad of tar on them , .80 cents seems about the going rate or a little less around here , not sure what lead scrap is going for where you live .

The few I've gotten were soft pliable lead....at least close to pure. Currently, 80 cents is probably not bad especially if it's all you can find.

Mostly pure lead, but will probably have some tin due to the soldered joint of the bottom to the “ stack”. .80c?a pound, if ya need it, go for it. Factor in some heavy loss if it has tar, shingle pieces, etc stuck to it. Flux the fire out of it, then hit with the wax of some kind, then flux it hard again, preferably with sawdust. Couple times should do it. Good luck whatever you decide.

That's about what I was paying when I was living in Mobile Alabama. I got mine from a roofer friend. Bought all he had for 7 years, about 3 tons worth. Hardness when I tested it was about 5 BHN. I did use sawdust as the first go around flux an pariffin for the last flux. Pull as much of the shingle material as you can first.

Pure lead. Usually very dirty and filthy. Lots of work to re-melt and clean into usable ingots, but if that's all you can find around and you really need Pb, get it. You will still need Sn and Sb to alloy in to make usable boolits. Unless you shoot RB's.

You can pick up any alloy material you may need from Roto Metals. It's where I get mine. Tin, or alloyed bars you can mix with your pure lead to get the mix you want.

Consider roof jacks , wall flashing and shower pans as pure soft lead .
Get to know a building contractor who does remodeling , tell him to call you when they have lead in a demo and offer to dispose of it for him ... most will be glad for you to take it off their hands ... that way they don't have to "properly dispose " of the hazardous material .

I'll be casting BP Conicals so a little tin won't hurt. Thanks group.
