I had this happen before. I adjusted the firing pin. Thinking it was slightly piercing the firing pin. It did it again yesterday. One time out of 40 rounds. I checked the primer, No piercing. It's not a hot or warm puff. Strange it does this now and then. Sure has me confused.

My Swiss 1889 used to do that with light loads that didn't expand the necks enough. A slightly heavier load solved my problem.

Sounds like Gewehr found the problem & has a solution for ya.

Is there a large, or an unusual amount of soot on the case?
If so, the brass isn't expanding enough to seal the chamber, and you're getting gases blown back around the case.

The case did not have soot. But the bore had an awful amount when i cleaned it. It looked like when you clean an oil furnace. I was running with green dot 14 grains. 150 grain speer bullets.

Just an afterthought, but were you using .308 jacketed bullets instead of .311 dia ? That might cause some blow by, and not let the G Dot to burn properly. That GD load with a full size cast bullet should shoot OK.

I doubled checked. They were .311 speer hot core 150 grain bullets.

I might as well throw my hat in.
excessive head space OAL on the cases. loose primer pockets on some of the brass. before the primer reseats on the reward thrust.

The oval all cartridge length i have at 2.920 with the 150 grain speer. The casings i trim to what the lee trimer and lock stud does them at. The primer pocket is a good call. I still have some to de-cap. I'll pay attention to see if any primers come out real easy. I only loaded 20 rounds after my last outing.

She's just blowin' ye a kiss!An eye drying kiss!
Our .30 carbine did that when I first started using cast. More powder fixed it.

I like that about she's blowing a kiss. I'll give the charge a bump if it does it again and the primers are tight. I was going to sell the rifle. I was all over the place group wise with the scope. I had to really lean into the scope to see. Despite it being long eye relief. I shot it after i put the irons back on. And it groups decent now. Im more relaxed with the irons. I put the scope on my 10/22. It works fine with it.

Seems like an odd load to use with jacketed bullets.

I use it because it saves on rifle powder. I don't need full power loads for range fun. I use it in all my rifle loads. When i want some varoom ill use my 4895 or varget. :D

How does it puff BEFORE firing?

The puff is a split second before it fires. Yeah it's weird.

Blowing a kiss-what? I think it's blowing you something else, don't mix so many beans with that green dot.

Took it out to the range today. Ran 60 rounds through. No puffs of air. The load did well nailing steel out to 300 yards.
