Lets talk tin solder

I have a few spools of tin wire solder that I add to my WW's for fillout. Then I have 3 spools .. two of them say tin with copper and one says contains tin, copper and selenium. Will the copper or copper and selenium affect the alloy of the boolit, or are those in such trace amounts that they are negligible. Why do they add copper and selenium to tin wire solder ??

Adding 2-4% solder, you will never notice the "contaminants."

I don't know why they add that stuff but its in such small quantity that it won't hurt anything. Non lead solder usually is 95% tin and 5% other stuff.

Why do they add copper and selenium to tin wire solder ??

Modern 95/5 is designed for plumbing systems to tolerate extreme temp. shifts and resist cracking from vibration.
And, it makes the solder harder.

It's been a very long time since I bought any 95/5 but at that time it was 95 tin and 5 antimony .

used lead free solder for years to add to my lead pipe/flashing etc .
