View Full Version : Front load washer counterweight material?

Curious if anyone knows if these are lead. Didn't find much searching and I figured if I have to pay to dispose of it an they are lead I'm going to try and salvage them.

Usually they are concrete.

The TOP load machines I have looked at are concrete weights. No idea on the front load machines.

They had an opening on top that looked like lead which is why I asked. They also seam really heavy for their size. Ill have to take a closer look. If they were lead I probably wouldn’t be the first one asking. :)

Do the standard teste:

pool acid to see if it bubbles = Zn

Ring or dull when hit with a hammer

Thumbnail scratch - hard or easy

Artist pencils - hardness

Ease of cutting with a hacksaw


We can only guess. Washers have changed over the many years!

I've never heard of weights in washing machines! I hope it works out for you.

All the ones I came across were concrete.

Usually they are concrete.
That's what's in our front load washer.

I repaired appliances for a living for 43 years. All I ever saw was concrete. Good idea though.
