heavy .44mag

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok yesterday i took out my trusty n.m.blackhawk.
it wasnt behaving at distance with the light 200gr.lrn.
i have a number of these.
they weigh 315gr. give or take a tad.
they have been pan and tumble lubed.
i am sorting them by weight.
now for the load itself.
with my research it looks like about 7 gr. unique.
any advice ,love letters or hate mail appreciated as always.

My goodness, here we go again! That boolit needs to be spun up, not shot slow for long range.
Drop the tumble lube too. Just lube with Felix lube.
Now for the bad news, that boolit needs about 1330 fps from a Ruger. 21.5 gr of 296 and a standard primer unless it is bitter cold, then use a mag primer.
It is to large for light loads!

That's my favorite .44 boolit. If you'll do what 44man says, you'll be very pleased with the results. Save the Unique for lighter boolits.

Remember to hold on good if you use the 21.5 gr of 296. The first time I had ever shot a 44 mag and with that load I came close to experiencing a very up close and personal relationship with my Ruger Super Blackhawk. :Fire:

BUT i have 16lbs. of unique.
and 8000 primers and about 100lbs. of various lead bullets.
these wont get loaded if i cant use unique.
i did find this.
310gr RCBS 44-SWC-300 cast
Alliant Unique 10.0gr, 1,082fps

Then, Uncle Bill, you should not be wasting your money on clangers. Rent a few movies instead. ... felix

Okay, if you just have to use Unique.....

328 HG 317.5 Unique 7.2 grains 898 FPS

I've shot these big Keiths in my SBH with Unique and they shot pretty accurate but the velocity is pretty low. I don't think you can tweak it up very much as the SD is pretty low with that load so there's not much "wiggle room" left with that load. Increase at your own risk./beagle

I am on a fixed income and almost out of 296 so I understand.
You can get them to shoot decent with Unique but just don't expect super accuracy or real long range shooting to be real good.
When you hit steel, they will still CLANG like mad! :Fire:

i didnt like walloping my clubs clangers with my loads.

Thinking about 16.0 to 17.5 of WC-820 might be good behind this boolit should provide accuracy.

I hav an older sloer batch so that is not what I use, but the newer lots of powder mimic AA#9.

Most accurate boolit to leave my SRH. Very close to the least fun in the SBH!
