Well, I was recently given a sporting rifle (Savage No.4) chambered for 303/270, must admit initially I wasn't interested in the rifle but the Parker Hale 5C range sight that was fitted. 303/270 factory rounds have not been seen in gunshops for over 40 years. After cleaning years of dirt from the barrel it seems to be in excellent condition. Probably not seen much outside of Australia. So far I have formed 50 cases by FLS in a 303 die then necking down using a 270 Savage die.

Accuracy is excellent with these fireforming loads but I really want to reload these tomorrow with Lyman 130gn round nose that I use successfully in my 270 Savage.

Is your cartridge a 303 British necked down to .270 diameter? I'm curious because the cases in your photo don't look like 303 British.

I believe there was a 270 Savage for a very brief period of time. Was it based on the 300 Savage?

Earlier short thread https://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?80189-303-270-Wildcat

I find the politically motivated calibers interesting, they show the futility of certain laws.

Also curious what you’re forming these from if not 303brit.

I noticed the lack of rim as well. Also, those cases look a bit too straight to be 303's. 303 action chambered in 270 WIN?

The cases are 270 Savage, included to show the 130gn cast boolits that I propose to use in the 303/270.

Gotcha. Any pics of a 303 case necked to 270? Just curious.

Excellent!
.270 needs some good cast cartridges.

I have seen a few of these in 303/270 and they were highly thought of by their owners. The Sportco barrels were all good shooters regardless of caliber I always found. When I shot big bore as a young lad there were several still using the no4 and they shot well but the Omark finally saw the death of the 303 for big bore, which as you know was one of the two reasons you could own a 303 in NSW so many had barrel changes to make them legal.
