My 12 cent doe

One shot and DRT,she didn't even twitch a hind leg or anything. The load was 30-06, a Saeco 315 bullet, 19 grains of 5744, and a 2 cent S&B primer. Total cost about 12 cents. Thats my favorite target load I've been shooting for several years, and I know it isn't traveling very fast, but it performed well with this deer. I really don't miss using full power factory loads, with their fist sized exit wounds and bloodshot meat.

I like that price also.
We have a 22 grain load of 5744 we shoot in a JESS Rebore 1903A3 375 Whelen with a NOE 270 gr FNGC that also is very accurate.
If only ILL-Nois would let us pop corn crunchers with center fire rifles.

I also enjoy the lack of ruined meat with lower speed cast loads and it never fails to impress me with how effective they are. With ideal conditions it really doesn't take much power to take a deer quickly and these lighter loads and their respective guns are the ones we tend to use the most so shot placement isn't an issue. Congrats on the deer.

Mr. G-G- That's great! That bullet probably would have cost you at least a dollar or two to buy. Since you are set up for casting, lubing, and sizing it probably cost just $47.89. ;)

Primer prices have gone up ever where

saw but not buying $90-100 per1k ..$114 for cci bench rest

I was at the range and shot 50 or so 35 whelen and 50 or so 30-06 = 100 rounds
at todays store bought prices = $300 to $400

need a better job to pay for that much fun

Add to the fact that I shoot at least 1000 or more rounds in practice and development for every deer I shoot, and the saving really begin to add up.

Folks need to understand that high velocity simply is not needed.... shot placement counts!

I have shot quite a few deer with Hornady superformance .444 loads, and recently .444 cast lee .310. I have seen simlar results, and way less bloodshot meat. Believe me, a nice clean hole beats a mangled front shoulder any day. Hard to beat a good cast load.

I make it a point not to figure up how much I’m saving by casting,reloading, building my own rifles etc. Ignorance is truly bliss.
