My son tore a pepsi vending machine apart and found what looked like a big 2'x2'x3" piece of what looked like lead. I tried melting it down and it won't melt
It has tubing thru out the thing
Anybody know what it is?

A counterweight for when it’s full of cans of soda, sure it’s pretty top heavy. I’ve heard of Darwin award winners tipping them over onto themselves to win their award.

Could be zinc. Does it ring when struck with a hammer or is it a dull thud?

Put a few drops of muriatic acid on it. If it's zinc, it will bubble.

Try the common-sense tests listed above. It is probably a useless piece of some metal used for a counterweight.

Many many years ago coolers for beer and soda used pure Sn tubing for non-corrosion and non-lethality. I found a 25# roll several years ago at the scrap yard and got it for 50¢/pound. They had no idea what it was. Must have thought it was a roll of steel tubing.
