A friend from deer camp, Johnny, and I both dabble in making knives. This weekend he brought one to show off, then after everyone looked it over, I tried to hand it back to him he said it's your's.

The handle rivets are pretty especially the center rivet. Nice knife!

Good looking knife.

It should be handier than a extra pocket.

Very nice! What is that handle material called? I've seen it before but can't place it. I'm a fan of drop points also, beginning with an Old Timer Sharp Finger long, long ago.

The handle is Micarta, not sure where he got it from. The blade is O1

Good friend. Nice knife. Did he build the sheath as well? If so he is a man of many talents. The two of you have started something good. You will have to have something for him next season.

I love that blade profile too, it's great for skinning.

Did you give him a penny? Thanks for the laugh. My wife's family was/is so superstitious, that was one of their standards!

He did not make the sheath, but it's a perfect fit.
I broke it in a couple of days ago. That broad blade skins like a dream. I then washed it with hot soapy water, thoroughly dried it and applied some CLP. I'd hate to have it rust or get tarnished.

Good job on the knife - I do think micratra is perhaps the most functional handle materials around. While I do tend to use wood for it's beauty on most of my knives, I've a couple of folks who do want micratra.

The blade material is already answered as 01, stock removal I assume since 01 isn't so good for forging? How did he do the HT'ing - forge or oven?

You should post some of your knives - I know there is a knife subforum somewhere on the site but I can't find it today.

edit to add: Looks like a logo etched on the blade? It's sorta hard for my old eyes to see, but it looks like a really neat logo. How does he etch the logo?
