Anybody know how many inch lbs. for the 6-48 screws in Ruger rings on a Mini-14? I hand tightened them by guess with the furnished Torx driver and found them to be at about 10 ip. Then took them up to a uniform 15 ip with the torque wrench. Hope that is somewhere between broken screws and migrating scope.

I see you are taking your game up to another level for rat strafing. Commendable, that.

I have no idea what the torque specs are for gun screw applications, other than guard screws on Rem 700 actions--which are 60 inch/pounds for pillar-bedded assemblies. For scope-related torquing, "above tube shifting looseness" is an obvious minimum, and if the Mini-14 isn't a Ranch Rifle--it will test the tensioning soundly and comprehensively.

From somewhere on the MidwayUSA site:

For example, Leupold recommends that 6-48 screws in a ring or base be tightened to 18 in.-lbs. and 8-40 screws be tightened to 28 in.-lbs. Windage screws on the rear ring of the scope mount should be tightened to 40-45 in.-lbs. Wheeler Engineering recommends that base screws be tightened to 30 in.-lbs. Ring screws in aluminum rings should be torqued to 10-15 in.-lbs. and steel rings to 15-20 in.-lbs. The windage screws on the rear rings of Leupold and other such mounts should be torqued to
30-40 in.-lbs.

Thanks, Junior. That's just what I needed. What a resource this place is!

The instructions for my FAT Wrench say 15-20 In Lbs for those screws.
