Daughter got a nice big doe yesterday morning with my 357 handi-rifle loaded with a 200gr hollow point ahead of a case full of Data 68. Deer was about 40 yards away and went straight down, she punched both shoulders with boolit passing straight through the heart, was very impressed with the amount of tissue damage considering the relatively mild velocity, 1150fps.292180292179292181292182292183

I’m always impressed with women and girls who decide to give hunting a try. There’s no reason not too !
Congrats to your daughter .

Been a productive couple days for cast boolits, the youngest daughter got a little butter ball of a four pointer with a Ruger ranch rifle in 7.62x39 loaded with a 314440 and 11.5gr of blue dot. Not a heavy load but her regular rifle was out in the truck and this rifle was handy by. She shot him facing us with head down. Shot was pretty steep down hill, center of the neck, straight down, through the heart and found bullet on the bottom of brisket. 292188292189292190

Congrats. Very nicely done by your girls. Wish mine would hunt but thinks Daddy has issues when it comes to guns.

They definitely think i have gun issues but still enjoying hunting. The oldest has just started living on her own in an apartment at college and discovered that food prices are outrageous, seems to have re-kindled an interest in deer hunting! Pretty lucky that they both still want to get out in the woods with Dad, plus gives me more tags for bullet testing!

Well done ladies!!!! This is what more of our young people should be doing, good parenting!! What is the hardness of your bullet alloy?

The 35 caliber bullet was 50/50 regular lead and wheel weight, not sure on the 314440 but probably the same but water dropped

Gun issues are no sin.

You done good with your daughters. They like to shoot your guns for how it looks. No one have gun issues. Just to get one that looks to work for what it might be use for . For you post what that boolit done tells me more on it. I have a mold that drops about 200 grs . Thanks for posting and that is some nice eating deer.

Please tell me about Data 68. I'm not familiar with that powder. I shoot a similar bullet in asimilar rifle with Viht Tin Star for 1160fps.

Thanks, Dinny

Data 68 was a surplus powder, used to be able to get it for 59 bucks an 8lb jug. Use accurate 2015 load data for it. A bit slow for that application but burns clean and shoots well. Wish I had a couple more jugs of it kicking around. I use it in multiple rounds, 357mag (rifle), 45/70, 348, 35 rem, 25/20. Very versatile powder and the price was right.

Great job! I miss Handi Rifles. I might have 4 or 5 but I wish I had more.

I wish I had gotten a 357 Handirifle when they were still being made.

I am glad to have this one, it came with plastic stocks and no sights. I drilled and tapped barrel for the front sight and stuck a Williams receiver sight on it. I was able to order a set of wood replacement stocks from NEF and it was like a new rifle both in looks and handling.
